Ok guys well got me email from mr.russell today, and nothing in there says anyhting about homework. It jus says that we will need to read and print the handbook. We will need to pay for a taxi cab ride to the hotel. I cant wait to get down there and get these days over with and out on the road making money.

I am nearing retirement from the US government and will be starting a new career. One of the companies I am looking at is FFE, so here are some questions for you. Answer if you know because I cannot find them online:

    1. Where are their terminals?
    2. Can I take my truck home?
    3. Are they "good" to their drivers? <I understand that "good" means different things to different people>
    4. What happens if I go to the FFE academy and need some extra one-on-one help with, say, backing or shifting? Will I get it or will I get thrown out because there's no time for one-on-one attention?

    Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Jerry, my recruiter and that was all the homework that he said we needed to be working on too. I'm going to continue working on the stuff that was forwarded to me as I'm sure it comes into play later in the week and it will be nice having a jump on it.:biggrin_2559:

Wtgal, Yeah mr.russell said all I need to do was read those sections in the book. However I think that this will be our homework on future dates. I also am thinking those questions will be on the wirtten test for our cdl at the dmv.

To those who are about to go, or have gone to the FFE classes. I am a trainer, the course is tough, only so that we know who is dedicated, and not out of their element. The trainers has ask that they look really well into your skills. Attitude is one of the skills we look for. It is not about brown nosing any one at the school. We pride our self's not to just throw any one on a truck for 6 weeks if they can not grasp the concept of trucking. Any one can drive a truck, but can they do it safely, and professionally. When going I urge you to pay attention, use your common sense. If you do, you will pass. There are a lot of folks who don't pass, they complain and belittle the course. If you failed the course, it was only you who did it. It is tough, and yes its gonna be hot as heck out there. But you have to want it, we are not gonna just give it to you. The last thing we want is for you, and your family to loose a driver, or injure or kill some one out there, we pride our self's on safety, and you will see it. So come on down, we are excited to see you guys graduate, and make it on to one of our trainers trucks...... btw no I am not paid by FFE, i just happend to have signed up today to see what forums are all about. Oh yea, my name on my log in is for real you can look me up when you graduate, enjoy the home work. Bring your brains full of common sense, we will challenge you.

    Edmund Thanks this.

Most will let you if you have some place to put it, and some will want a trailer with it , so better off checking with the company to see what their actual policy is. They obvious have one in Lancaster, and one in Chicago,Bridgeview actually. I almost hired on with them back in OCT. 2010, went through a private recruitor, I do not know whose fault it was but I had everything ready to go to Lancaster, this was for oreientation, not CDL training I do not think they had that school in Lancaster yet, I think they were sending students to Pine Bluff, but had my bags packed, money , plane ticket ( coming from Chicago) not gonna take a 2 day bus ride, all my stuff for 6 weeks with trainer. The day before I leave my recruitor calls and says there is a question about that accident you had in 2006, know I had told everyone about this and was no secret, it disqualified me from a few companies, they needed more info about it, and you can't come down untill we know more. I thought all that would have been looked into before now? Called them directly a week later to tell them I had hired on with another company, pretty sure it was that outside recruitor that dropped the ball. Back then they needed alot of drivers had a big push to get drivers in. I have not heard anything bad about that new acadamey they have. As far as being good to their drivers, I think it varies, how adaptable are you, if you adapt well to alot of uncertainty, because thats, what trucking is especialy in the beginning, I do not think they are the worst out there, what is good for one isn't good for another do some research, there are a few that may be a good fit for you, Look into KLLM, they pay well for a new driver, over 30 cpm, better than most, but it is all about the miles. Good luck
