I have a question, this is the first time I get a speeding ticket and don't know what to do. This happened in California, I was driving my car and I got hit by going 5 miles over the limit. Should I notify my employer right away or just wait till I go to court?, if the officer doesn't show up will they dismiss the ticket?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated..

Only required when conviction is completed within 30 days.

Glad I don't drive in California. Like Roadmedic said, you don't need to report it unless you are convicted.

Be careful if you arrange a plea that it doesn't go on your record as the original charge.

Wisconsin did that to me a few years back.

Go to the county or town and see if they have a diversion program. You may pay more then what the fine would be, but if you don't get another ticket within a certain number of years, the ticket never shows up on your record.

And just 5 miles over, you really got a "ball bustin" po po. Thats just not right.

I would fight that ticket big time. Generally it has to be 6mph over for most states before its even able to be ticketed. Get a lawyer and try to fight it as a speedometer inaccuracy.

Try that and guess what the court will say.

If you think that is the law, then as a professional driver, at 55 mph, you should be driving 49 mph.

    Will not hold water.

On top of that, the CSA 2010 rates the ticket for points at that speed over. It also opens one up to an inspection.

The 5 over is a myth.
If the limit is 55 you can be ticketed for 56.
With electronic speedos and lazer point detector guns the days of speedo malfunction and gun calibration issue pleas are over.

That's a fact. In Missouri, years ago, when the speed limit first went to 55 MPH I got a ticket for 57 MPH. The were running aircraft and making a statement about the fact that we would slow from 70 MPH to 55 MPH.

Many LEOs may give us 5 MPH but there is nothing to make them do this.
