ok buddy, ive leased thru usx the last 4 yrs.the new lease youre talking about will pro bably break you.#1 they only lease frieghtliners with cat engines no detroits Why? the 07 cat engine is the worst maint.engine on the road its called a bridge engine, then cat gave up altogether. How do i know i leased one in 08 with 285k on it,spent over 30 days in shop over 1 yr.broke down 17 times.I raised all kinds of cain with usx over that truck. The lease theyre offering on the 07 frieghtliners is because they want out from under them,if not why no detroits, volvos,or petes?#2 The warranty there offering is only engine for 24 mos.If youve drove for usx youve had trans problems with the auto, alas no tran warranty in theyre new lease deal.#3 Theyre taking 9 cents a mile out of your pay to go to maintence fund thats 11,000$ a yr for 2 yrs. Why? They know the maint. history on these trucks you will spend that money on breakdowns, towing, and trans repairs, even with engine warranty(aftermarket) when youre towed warranty doesnt cover it.If you want to spend every dime you make for the next 2 yrs and end up with a 850k mile truck that needs a inframe (15 to 18,000$)when you get that title,i wish you luck, almost forgot those 07 frieghtliners get 5 and maybe 6mpg on a really light ld on flat ground. The name of the game in leasing or owning your own truck is fuel mileage period!! I think you should lease, its worked out great for me just not this deal.Get a newer truck that gets 7mpg and only a 3cent maint fee, plus factory warranty.Everything ive said is true call lease dept in lincoln to find out.Always remember usx is looking out for usx not drivers(theyre a dime a dozen)usx driver turnover is around 120%.Theve had nothing but bad luck with those 07 frieghtliners and this is a way theyve devised to get rid of them.Good luck!

well i have been holding off responding due to not really wanting to get all the negative feed back going etc ....but i will respond some now i guess ...lol

i know that some or most think that it would be stupid to do this thing, but the thing is this, i have no way to go out and buy my own truck at all bad credit due to past marriage blah blah blah ...i do not think this thing is golden or icing on the cake for most...but it's the best thing for me at the moment, i know i will pay more than truck is worth buy not much more really, at the end of two years it will be mine to do what i want to with, 300,000 mile warranty is not that bad does it cover everything? nope

it takes the right person to make this job work, no matter if its company driver, owner op , or lease, lease to own etc ,,, you have to want it to work and work hard to get it done, i started driving 11 yrs ago put of that 11 i have drove over the road about 8 yrs of it, all company driver and now i want to change and this i think is what i need to do, ... i cant sit here and break down every detail and pick it apart nor do i want to, my only response is it can work for me, what works for me may not work for others ...i truly dont think it the worst deal just my opinion i do however know of drivers who just lease and never own or buy and that is their choice, what ever works for them ...please dont get me wrong i'm not trying to sound like i know everything because i do not believe me...lol , this will be a learning lesson and alot of hard work im sure ...but its time for me to branch out and test the waters, if i fail i will be the first to say so ....:biggrin_25510: ..... if i do well, i will say that too ...lol :biggrin_25522:

i'm thankful for any advice and will be glad to hear it, just please dont think im dumb and just jumping off into something without thinking ...we shall see what happens

Good post Highwayman, I have a friend that is with SNI and he has a 2008 Cascadia that he has been leasing for about two years. He will have a balloon payment at end of lease but he can just continue to lease until it is paid off. I have found a couple that I would consider but would look into real hard before making the choice.. I don't like what I have found concerning leaseing from companys like SNI, USX, Werner, Swift or the like..If I was going to do a lease, it would be with a L/O or O/O company only. That is just my opinion. I too have bad credit but will do all I can to save up for the truck I want,,while the wife and I drive for a company. I wish you the best brother... My friend is making it work for him and there are others on here that are making it work for them, so it CAN work.

Well good on ya there HIGHWAYMAN! If we don't take some risks every now and then, we'll never know what rewards may be just around the corner. I forget who said this, but I have always liked it: "Of all the sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these,'It might have been.' "

Here's something you may find useful in your expanded business adventure. I can't recall who this driver works for (KLLM possibly), but I really like the way he approached his own L/P arrangement. He began by establishing some clearly stated goals and metrics, and just as importantly he clearly defined the tools, and the nuts and bolts he would use to achieve those goals. He's been pretty 'ballsy' in keeping up to date a detailed spreadsheet on Google Docs for any and all to see. Being able to quickly look at and crunch all the numbers in a variety of angles is what tells the real story behind whether or not a business is really making the profits we might think we are. It's not always as easy to see as clearly as one might think. At least with detailed record keeping it can be possible to pinpoint problems and find an appropriate solution. The only thing he has not included in these numbers are; Income Tax (impossible to figure on the fly); Soc Sec tax (currently down [thank you Mr. Obama] to 10.2% from 12.2% of the first $106,800 for the self-employed); Medicare tax (2.9% on all earnings - this is of course twice the amount an employee would pay). Not including the tribute to the tax-man though, he has still averaged a respectable 51.13 CPM over the three plus years up to the present.

C.S.Lewis has for decades been a favorite author of mine. This sort of fits in here:
"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad."
Best of luck flying around in your own truck. :biggrin_25514:

As Tow Sawyer once wrote " Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is imminent " all you needs a start you do the hard yards , its interesting if you talk with folks that have a success story you'll find most of them did it tough, but the most important thing was that they never gave up, to many people today want things given to them on a silver plate, unfortunately unless you've got a rich daddy or momma that ain't gonna happen any time soon. :biggrin_25525:

Poobah, and aussiejosh, thanks to you both ....

i have always sad that a person can sit and stare at the pond of life and wonder all they want, but they will never know how deep the water is unless they jump in.. the only thing they need to know how to do is hold their head up and swim long enough to get back to the shore ...sounds corny but i made that up years ago...lol :yes2557:

one of my favorite quotes came from the great Evel Knievel....it goes something like

" falling down does not make a man a failure, refusing to get back up does "

or something like that, lol ....bottom line is we as people will never know what we can succeed at if we don't even try .....i'm gonna give it a try ...thanks guys
