There are some scales that dont have parking though, but you still want to communicate with the scalemaster. -

So how about no DOT inspection of a vehicle with an obvious problem that happened after we departed our last stop, especially if we're calling road service or a tow to deal with it???Lilbit Thanks this. -
Two reasons:
Regardless of present company and the common sense most officers possess, there are some few who wait in anticipation for the opportunity to write some poor schlep a ticket. They have the "gotcha" mentality.
And, there are drivers who will go and go and go, despite shredding a tire all over the interstate. Like the guy who passed me in Florida with the empty lowboy trailer, rubber just a'flyin. Hailed him on the radio. He knew about the flat, but was going to the TA....75 miles down the road. I stopped at the Petro, got fuel and returned to the road. There was a trail of rubber all the way to Wildwood. Just being nosy, I went into the TA to get a pop. There was the lowboy, sitting on two shredded tires and one destroyed rim. The tire blew between when he started and when he stopped. He passed a (closed) scale well after he passed me going 70mph. I had one of those radar things on my dash.
That guy was a dummy. But it's because of dummies like him that DOT guys act the way they do with the rest of us. -

Been a busy week so far. Stop a guy for a lane violation and on the walk up I see 4 bald, look like NASCAR Goodyear Racing Eagles, from the rear axle to the drives. Get the driver's paperwork and he tells me he just had a DOT check the other day. Hands me 5 inspections from different State's from the West Coast to the East Coast just from this past week. Granted 2 are Level III or driver inspections. One Level I and two Level II inspections. Driver said he couldn't figure out why he keeps getting stopped? Well that was an easy answer on this day, left lane violation. I do the Level I, He still had all the same violations from the Level I he had 6 days prior, plus 2 out of service violations. I look at his log book and I look at the inspection reports. Not even close. The one report was done in California, his log showed Texas at the same time. Sixteen hours later he got stopped in New Mexico, but his log shows him in Tennessee. Each inspection he was hundreds of miles from that location in his log book. I ask the driver who says " I have no idea how to fill out a log book. I don't think I'm doing it right." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sheeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!
When I put him out of service he wants to cuss me, I guess he thinks I was just picking on him. It amazes me each and every day, what is out here holding a steering wheel. Granted, 99% of the driver's I stop are the total opposite of this fella, and thank God.Lilbit, Scalemaster, Injun and 11 others Thank this. -
Ok, I need to ask if what I saw today is standard practice by the DOT. I was in Conway,SC, 5 lanes(middle lane was left/right turn) 10 wheel box truck in the turn lane with blue lights behind it. I thought he was probably broke down and the cop was just there helping. WRONG, SC DOT was chocking his wheels and had a creeper to slide under his truck. What was going on?
