I'm a stone cold rookie, gonna work the texas oil fields

ok, so the interview went well and I'm now waiting for the background check to come back and I should be starting next thursday.

The interview process was fairly lengthy. There was plenty of paperwork and a general knowledge test and a drug test. After all that, i had to drive 70 miles to take a physical test. That test was fairly lengthy too. They checked out my flexibility, strength, proper lifting techniques, cardio, blood pressure and range of motion.

......then I drove 70 miles back and reported back to the office for plenty more paperwork lol. The management at nabors are really down to earth and friendly but also professional.

Everything about my researched checked through. The best way to get these jobs is to do what many others have already said.....JUST GET YOURSELF DOWN HERE AND MEET FACE TO FACE with whoever you want to work for. If you cant score that job, then there are plenty of other companies out here, throughout texas, louisianna, north dakota.....just get your butt out there and go get your job.

I purposely asked one of the managers if they get alot of their time wasted with people calling for a job from out of state and never showing up. He said yes, most people never show up. So, if you call and they say they'll hire you, the mere fact that you drive hundreds or thousands of miles to come for an interview will impress them and really start you out on the right foot with your potential employer.

The last question they asked me on the interview was if i had anything to say about them or the company and I told them i felt they'd be making a mistake if they didnt hire me. They liked that.

I also told them I'd come and sweep their parking lot everyday till next thursday and they laughed but liked that too. I'm definately going to stop by their office tomorrow and see if theres something I can do. I'll go pick weeds, cleans tools.....ANYTHING.

 

lol yeah, i wont show up lookin to pull weeds or anything but i will definately stop by tomorrow and ask them if there is anything i can research or do that will help me before I actually start.

Hmmmm, what I got to do also is re-take my hazmat to transfer from cali to texas. It would be helpful to see what the texas hazmat tests are like. I got till next thursday to find out because the dmv is only open once a week in this small town and you can only transfer your license in the town you reside in or your vehicle is registered in. Its been a VERY busy last few days. I spent the whole day today just getting my vehicle legal for state inspection. Also, you cant transfer your license first, you have to register your vehicle first.

They got alot of laws in texas.....dont you dare speed in texas, they take that stuff serious here. I havent seen one person speed yet and no tailgaters either.

Its really different here and I like it. Everyone at the motel here are oil field related workers. Some are those louisianna swamp canjun people. We all hangout and bs over a beer or two in the evenings. Lol, these guys stand in puddles of beer and grit in their bare feet!!! lol, cool people.

 

Yes i did thanks to your message. I was able to use my sonora address from the motel at the san angelo dmv. Now the only problem I'm having is my social security number. The ss office screwed up my birth date years ago and I did everything they needed from me for the last few months to resolve it and its still not resolved. I am going to raise hell with them on monday. This situation has now become rediculous and borderline abusive now. If I get hired, I am not going to show up to work on thursday with dumb excuses about why I cant transfer my california cdl to texas. I AM GOING TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED.

I could write a seperate thread about ALL the issues ive had with getting my cdl since the beginning of trucker school. Heck, even the state inspection paperwork I got yesterday was screwed up. I mean its UNREAL man. The only thing that went smooth was my TSA check.

LOL, when I went back to the ss office to raise hell (because the paperwork they gave me today didnt satisfy the dmv) i got there at 3:33 and they close at 3:30......LOL figures

So now what i'm in the process of doing is talking to a speacialist on solving problems. He's going to supply me with a list of demands and instructions for lighting a fire under social security's butt. These incompetent people are going to find out I'm not the kind of person who ever gives up or goes away. I mean, these people are messing with my livelyhood now and enough is enough.

 

ok, so i went to ss and had the supervisor do an "override" to validate my birth cirtificate and everything should be straightened out in their system within 24 hours. So if there is a problem at dps, they can call the supervisor who gave her personal office number.

So tomorrow, i will go to dps and switch my cdl to texas and take my hazmat as well. If i fail the hazmat, then i have to wait 24 hours and take it again. So that means i got till wednesday and that gives me 2 chances to pass just in case i need to.

I havent heard back from nabors yet about the background check but they said it would be by this wednesday and i cant see any reason why i wont pass that......so that means i should start thursday. Whatever, it doesnt matter, i am getting all my legal stuff straightened out as if I WILL be starting thursday.

 

i passed my background check and i got safety orientation on thursday all day, then come in friday and fill out more paper work and get fit for jump suit uniforms and stuff. From what i understand, they will send me out with a driver and get trained. I hear it takes a few months, not sure about that but i'll let you know. Nabors is real big on safety and training, that i know for sure.

 

ok, my ssn is straightened out, passed my hazmat and got my texas license. All i got left is to take my fingerprints for hazmat and tsa tomorrow and I AM DONE. Its been quite an endeavor and to register my vehicle and switch licenses was about 400 bucks. But the work is here ladies and gentleman and I start workin for nabors on friday. I hope this thread helps out anyone interested. I'll still update though. I'm sure there will be those who want to know what the work is actually like and the beginning processes for a stone cold rookie.
