Ran a route yesterday while going home. I put in a stop TA truck stop I-85/I-40 & Hwy 61, Exit 138 in NC. It would not take exit 138 it want to take another exit and take back roads. I took the exit 138 anyway because I knew it was a ok route. When I did it did show on the gps that I was overweight for the overpass. There is not a weight restriction for the overpass. Please check and correct.

Well, good news I'm finally happy with my GPS. The first one I bought the sound stopped working 3 weeks after i bought it and the owner of the t/s I got it at replaced it and said he was dealing with Rand McNally on it. The new one lasted 2 weeks and stopped charging and the day before I got home the sound stopped again the owner of t/s helped big time this time after reading this form and Marks quotes and explanations he said "OK, rand released an untested product to people who need something reliable" he than gave me a replacement Garmin Dezl 560LMT instead of a Rand McNally and through out the 12 Rand mc ally's he had and said he would just write the lost inventory off. Lessons Learned 1) Don't by a new product and if you do and find out your not a customer but you paid $350 to beta test a product (" me know what route city and state to fix", "call us about the charging issue and let us know where we didn't engineer our product right", thanks for buying the gps now spend $60+ in shipping to keep returning our POS) "because that's standard practice in retail" and 2) SUPPORT INDEPENDENT TRUCK STOPS!!!! Hey Mark don't want to hear your reply the product is subpar and is an embarrassment to an otherwise decent company and as far as BETA testing the company did a terrible job, before I get banned or booted I will pull a rand BETA tester move and justify my position with this

Definition- A test for a product prior to commercial release. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, and normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a free or reduced price trial Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing.

    1) product obviously not tested before release as there are numerous map, software, and hardware errors (don't say there's alot of roads to get right so mistakes should be expected I understand that it's why I don't developed a product, it's also why RM gets $300+ a pop so they can recoup costs incurred to make a quality product)

    2) send product out side company for real world exposure obviously never happened because now people paid for it and it's in the real world application and will not withstand daily use without breaking or route effectively

    3) Beta testers get free or reduced price- nope paid in full to find out the power chord isn't built to handle vibration, speaker won't withstand vibration or possibly heat from son, and routing provided is a crap shoot that drivers need to correct for RM.

Might be tied to this. I will submit to Rand to verify. But, might be in the map database.

    President George Bush Turnpike

The interconnectedness of Interstate 635 on the west side of Dallas will improve, as the missing link of the Dallas beltway looks to be filled. Opened in 19995, the President George Bush Turnpike currently encircles the north side of the metropolitan area. The highway will extend southwest to the Airport Freeway (Texas 183) in 2006, bringing the mileage tally to 302. As it currently stands, the turnpike is partially opened as Texas 161, the number in which applies to the President Bush Turnpike frontage roads in Irving (Texas 190 composes the frontage roads in Garland).3 Beyond 2006, the tolled facility is planned to continue southward to Interstate 20 and ultimately a conclusion at Interstate 30. At that time the belt line of Dallas will be complete. Look for this project to be completed by 2010.4

    1. Just because you can drive a truck on a road does not make it legal for your width, height, weight, trailer length. You drive on a road and expect the navigation unit to route you like a car. DOT does not always post signs as to the restrictions. Do you expect car navigation units to be 100% correct in routing? If you find an error in routing in a car do you send it in to the map company? If not, how can corrections be made? Local governments, state governments change roads all the time. Any changes to any road may take up to a year to get entered into any map database, that is if someone sends in the paperwork. Up until a few years ago their was a few truck navigation devices. If it routed you wrong do you think the drivers wrote in to the company? Probably not. Rand came into the market 2008/2009 (to the public) and Rand has actively tried to correct mapping issues by submitting them to NavTeq. Rand has no power over NavTeq and when they correct the maps then they are passed onto those companies that purchase NavTeq maps. A lot of trucking companies use QualComm's and they use Navteq maps. If the trucking company does not buy an update then the driver does not see the corrected maps. Now for truck attributes, Rand uses their own database that is overlaid onto the map database. As errors are found then they are verified and put into the next release map database. Drivers still are using 2009 maps and issues in them have been corrected in the latest set of Map updates. If they chose not to update, then can Rand be the cause of mis-routing?

Software errors - No software is 100% bug free. Rand does test for those that are found and the updates to the owners is 100% free. Version updates come out about every four months. Again, software updates (not maps) are 100% free. You simply connect to the internet to update and if you cannot you can call a 1-800 to have an update SD card shipped to you FREE.

Hardware issues. You have a one year warranty. Their is no limit how many times you can use this during the one year. Again you call a 1-800 number. Most truck stops go by the 30 day rule. Again, after the 30 days you call Customer support for Free.

Shipping. Industry standard is usually, customer pays for shipping to the company and company pays shipping back. If my laptop had to go in for warranty work, the same applies. You can go online with UPS, FedEx, USPS, print out a label, pay for the shipping and arrange for them to pick it up at your house.

    2. The products do get tested. When you deal with thousands of units sold versus the amount of employee's and Beta testers testing you will never hit every condition in real life. Look how many different types of trucking jobs are out there and the many different ways the navigation units are mounted.

    3. Units sold for hardware/software are not Beta Units. I might pay $20,000 for a car, yet it might be recalled. Hardware or software. Are they selling Beta cars to the public? Nothing in life is 100% fault free.

Again, the TND takes into account what truck attributes and routing is available and makes a decsion. Is this the same as the way you would go? Maybe/maybe not. If you know another route, is it truck legal? Just because 3 other trucks are on the road does not make it truck legal. The TND is not tied to anyone's Cerebral Cortex. It is simply making decsions based upon what the driver gives it for truck attributes and then basing those routes on what is in the map database.

The T/S did exchange your TND's and when the T/S sends them back to Rand or their distrbution center they get credit back. The T/S did not lose any money.

But, the main core is that I am here to listen to you and any other driver. Do you see other truck navigation companies on this web site and answering drivers almost daily? This is to include weekends and nights? I do not get paid to sit here and answer replies. I could very easily answer the forum M-F, 9-5. But, I was a driver and I know the down times come at any hour.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Correct. I know this area, but in reading it may still be tied to the local frontage roads. Our GIS department should shed some light on this.

You can E-Mail them to me if it will save you time. I have to copy/paste into a reporting system on them anyway.

I have the newest (not on market) maps and if you give me the start/stop and the problem area I can test here first to see if it has been corrected.

    Thanks,
    mark
