If you are attending CDL school at Stevens, you will be required to obtain a Texas license. (all part of the CDL process) Including a Texas permit.
Once you have completed your license testing and hold a valid Texas CDL, you will move into Orientation 1, the first phase of being trained as a qualified OTR driver.
You are required to transfer your CDL back to your home state within 90 days of being hired at Stevens.
Hiring date is usually the fourth day of OR-1.
Your state likely requires you to move your license back home as well.
You are not required to take new tests to move your license. Most states it's simply a transfer fee and some simple paperwork.
Some states (Oregon & Washington as an example) will require you to take the WRITTEN Class C test again if you haven't taken it within the last two years. Most states will waive that requirement if your valid state license had been upgraded within the last 12 months.

When I asked the Michigan DMV that, I was told they accept the full Texas CDL without further testing but the don't necessarily accept ALL states CDL's. You should check with your own DMV. No state accepts any others permit that I know of.

 

i thought i was joining you this monday at class. but they forgot to put me in the list.
next class is 10/07/11 a long wait.

 

More time to study the Texas CDL manual, if you don't have a copy from your recruiter - they sent one to me early on!!
