ironpony, seebs, and denali dad: I appreciate your responses. I called Prime recruiting again and spoke to someone a little more positive named J***. She said living in Maine was not a problem, they have freight running from here to NC. Also I told her despite my past experience, I was going into this with the attitude of being a "newbie". I guess I "passed" the prelim questions and she had me submit the online application. I am just waiting to hear back from her.
I'm going to take my CDL permit test here in Maine, with the Hazmat endorsement. Does anybody know if the tanker endorsement is a written test or road test? My first truck driving job was pulling tanker before the CDL era. Figure I would cover ALL the bases.
I ALMOST made a big mistake and went to CR England. YIKES!!!
Looking forward to joining you guys. When I was on the road running NC to CA turns for Ranger(Landstar), back in the 90's, you guys were a class operation. I really like that they don't cut you loose to go solo in a couple of weeks, like England was talking about. That whole "trainee training the trainee" thing irked me back then, and still does. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for the advice!!!DenaliDad Thanks this. -

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT GET HAZMAT ON YOUR PERMIT It will NOT transfer to Missouri when you get your CDL. Wait until you have your CDL and add it when you transfer it back to Maine.
Also, as far as I know, tanker is a written test only.DenaliDad and imyouroldman Thank this. -
Tanker is a written test you do at the DMV, similar to general knowledge and so on. -
Then there's the loads out of Dayton NJ that we just about own.
Don't forget the medical-grade hazmat loads out of the NE - some of those are high-value as well.
Just because you aren't pulling them, doesn't mean they aren't there - and you're not going to hear about them if you don't have the endorsement. The matter of fact is, you're limiting yourself to sitting around while someone with a hazmat endorsement is gettin' the heck out of Dodge.
