Hey Lantern I wondered where you went! Congrats on finishing orientation how exciting is that
DocG we have 2 companies that have said they would hire us, Werner and US Xpress. Trust me I tried a lot of companies, but we have several things to our disadvantage: location of course, being students, but also we don't have a traditional work history... we were self employed, in Panama, for the last few years, and here in the US just since this year so we haven't been able to file taxes yet... so Werner and US Xpress were the only 2 that would take documents other then tax returns to prove we were self-employed (we owned a dump truck) and Swift, but Swift won't hire us south of Tampa. So our last resort would be to move to Tampa, but from what I've heard, if you have a pulse Werner will hire you lol. -
another video! I actually had loads of room but at the time, from inside the truck, it seemed like I had no room at all lol.

Say, that last video you posted...where was that and were you guys practicing or actually making some kind of delivery? -
I took that course at Petec back in the early 90's. Jack Piel was running things then. Great course hope they haven't dumbed it down. I think we spent 12 weeks and it was $750. They had a simulator which was real cool! We did a lot of range time and did some overnight trips. anyway good luck with it and try to stay away from the BIG companys.
strawberryrhubarbpie Thanks this. -
I talked to a friend of mine and she suggested looking into Con-Way/CFI. They do take students but most likely you two would be split up during your training period of 6 weeks. She says since you're a husband-wife team they will probably run you hard, if you don't mind that. Oh and they do run Florida.
We also agreed that you should stay away from CR England and CRST.strawberryrhubarbpie Thanks this. -
Give Conway a call. I know you said they were not your first choice but be persistant with them. Now that u have your CDL they should want to talk to you guy's. will have to split u up for training but its only for 3wks. good luck and pm me if you have any questions on Conway.
strawberryrhubarbpie Thanks this. -
Before I started the course I had completed an application with Conway, and then called the recruiter that I had been working with... they were my first choice because they had told me they hire students out of my area, and I had read only good things about them online. But once she saw our lack of work history, her words for me were basically that they were inundated with new hire applications and did not have any interest in us.
I know Werner has a bad reputation, but we just need to get our foot in the door. I am also talking with a recruiter with US Xpress, so that we can make a decision based on pay, benefits, time in training etc.
Sequoia, we drove to Miami, to the CBS channel 4 station, to pick up some donated television equipment. We each got around 250 miles that day! Jim and Mark left St Petersburg around 3:30 am, and picked us up on Palm Beach Blvd. close to Alva around 5:30 am. Then on the way back they dropped us off around 2 pm, and got back to the school around 4:30 pm. Mark told me he didn't realize how far we had to drive every day! We have put quite a few miles on our little Chevy Aveo, but now that we are going otr it will be sitting a lot
