Lewis, who gave the video to The Associated Press, said his daughter landed on her head, but it cannot be seen on the video. He said the baby continues to suffer ill effects from the fall.
"She shakes a lot and cries a lot," Lewis said, noting doctors have performed several MRIs on the child, Karla. "She's not real responsive. Something is definitely wrong with my daughter."
It was not clear whether the baby received any electrical jolt.
Child Protective Services has custody of the baby because of a history of domestic violence between Lewis and his wife, Jacqueline Gray. Agency spokeswoman Estella Olguin said the infant does not appear to be suffering any health problems from the fall.

"In a statement, the hospital said Lewis was hostile and uncooperative toward staff members who were trying to find out his relationship to the infant when they saw him trying to leave. Neither Lewis or Gray had indicated they wanted a discharge, according to the statement."
"Mr. Lewis became verbally abusive by using vulgar expletives. When Mr. Lewis' behavior became threatening, endangering the infant and employees, licensed law enforcement officers followed their professional standards to protect those involved," the statement said.

Once again, had this guy been some nutjob and any harm came to the baby, the hospital would be visited by Al Sharpton and his gang.
The number one rule in a hospital maternity ward is, no baby leaves here under any circumstances if there is any question about the person attempting to leave with that child.
In today's world of drugged out idiots, I say tazer him if he is acting suspiciously, as this guy was.
These were not "renta-cops" they were off duty police officers. Why? because enough crazy stuff has happened around the country at maternity wards that hospitals don't mess around anymore. There is a reason "Code Pink" practically locks down a hospital.

Regardless of what they were told, or not told...

That cop knowingly endangered that child's LIFE! He KNEW or should have known that baby would be dropped!!! Or even crazier, SHOCKED! And a Tasor has enough umph to it to actually KILL an infant!

A Tasor was used on a woman who was 7 months pregnant. She had just been to a doctors appointment, and the baby was fine. The docs were treating her for Toxoplasmosis. She was walking home and the cop thought she was acting weird... When she wouldn't quite co-operate with being handcuffed, he tasored her... That evening the baby was dead.... Oh, it happened in Eureka CA....

Oh man... this one's a hard one for me. It was really, really stupid for the security guard to taser someone holding a newborn. Even with "non-deadly" force you have to use some common sense with the incident. But Ronn makes a good point, this security guard was doing what he was suppose to do in this situation.

Again it's another scenerio where we weren't there, so really we have no idea what was taking place. Even a video can be misleading, you can see the events occuring, but the details and feelings of what was happening are not caught on tape.

These people should be able to transfer this baby to another hospital and have some tests done. If the new test prove there is no damaged detected, then I would say this claim is coming from an upset indiviual, that caused a situation, that put his daughter in jeapordy, and he dosn't want to take responsibility for it. And of course he's probably looking for 7 figure settlement from the hospital.

I hope someone kidnapps the rent-a-cop & tortures him to death. I can think of some ideas involving an arc welder.

I'm not saying a hospital maternity ward is the right place for a taser, but, it does say in the story that they weren't sure of his connection with the child, and that children services where already in place for this baby. It also doesn't say how old this baby was, but does say he was holding it with one arm. I just think there is more of a story to this guy and women than what was written. Again - don't yell at me - I don't believe they really needed to taser him, but they defiantely needed to stop him from leaving with the child.

I agree here. There is a lot that we don't know about this story. Had the guard not stopped this guy from leaving with the baby, we could just as easily be hearing of another type of tragedy, the kidnapping of a newborn-happens all the time. I think that people are forgetting the real bad guy in the story, the father who was acting out with his baby in his arms. Had he not been acting strangely, none of this would have happened.

I wouldn't promise that! Here, a woman gave birth to a baby boy in the hospital ER waiting room, after repeated pleas for help from the mother and others in the waiting room. When another woman in the waiting room pounded on the waiting room window, trying to ANYONE'S attention.... The nurses called SECURITY and called in security from OUTSIDE the hospital too, because they said this woman being the UNRULY, when all she did was try to get help for a woman who VERY obviously needed it! This child was born on a dirty ceramic tile floor, in an unsanitary ER waiting room, and NEEDED help...

Was the woman pounding the window unruly? Not in my opinion. Was she any kind of threat? No. I should know! The woman is my aunt!!
