And just like Chompi said: if you're sending in applications to companies, it's best to follow up with a phone call immediately after you send in your application. Tell them you wanted to confirm that it was received.
Just as an example, you may have read that I sent in an application with Millis transfer. I waited 3 days and then I called in. They tossed it because they get over 300-400 each day and have a limited number of spots available for new drivers. They said I could apply again in 6 months.......
As far as USX is concerned, they're Ok to work for, but they're huge, so at times it can seem a little in-personable. Overall, I have no complaints so far.

The biggest pain with the DT going down is not being able to send in my MACROS. I've got to call everything in.
It's a nice gizmo to have in the truck, but you can't really rely on it for your navigation. Just like any other GPS, it's got a mind of its own.
It bought the farm as I was heading to Cleveland from Chicago. The run I made to NJ was with out it. I know the tri-state area pretty well, so it wasn't a big deal.
The laws of probability say I'll end up in Rochester sooner or later, so don't worry. Then you can say you've meet 2 people from TTR.sammycat Thanks this. -

Glad I remembered how to do paper logs. Now I have to keep them going until I reach a service center. They're working on routing me there.

Hello Everyone.
I don't have much to update about as I've been waiting for dispatch to route me in for repairs at our Shippensburg terminal.
However, I am watching at this moment, the excitement caused by a flatbed, that while in the process of backing into a parking space, lost all air supply to the trailer.So in addition to the 20 or so tractors trying to get around him to get fuel or to leave, there are about 10 tractors that can't even get out of their parking spaces.
The trailer air supply line is leaking. There are about 6 other drivers assisting (made up of the blocked drivers who want to leave).
SUCCESS!
The replacement line got him moving. Life here just got good again. So the moral to the story: carry a spare air line......you never know.
So much for current events.
I, on the other hand, had my first run into NYC.One thing that is for certain: no one cares if your truck is backing up, going forward, or exploding. Nothing will deter the locals from their appointments.
The NYC run was a re-power for a young driver with no knowledge of the city, so they asked me if I would mind running it in...................yeah, I mind..............J/K. I was happy to help out.
Well, hopefully I'll get in to the terminal today for some much needed attention to my Driver Tech system. The problem with accepting loads and making on-time deliveries with just an atlas and paper logs makes my FM say "Wait, take one more load before you head to the terminal."
I'll get there sooner or later.

NYC isn't bad at all if you time it right. Have your route planned out and a back up just in case and you are in and outta there no worries!

Delivering on city streets at rush hour is a pain, but my appointment time was for 0730. People are in a real hurry at that time of day. Another driver had to stop the traffic so I could back in. Once I was unloaded, I got out of there and headed west.
I'm in Shippensburg, PA at our terminal tonight, finally getting the much needed repairs done on my tractor.
I hate giving up my truck to the shop. You can't stay with it while it's being repaired. All you can do is look at it through the shop window.
They do good work here. Just want to get back into my rolling home. -
I just read all 120 pages of your journey into trucking. I am starting school in a couple of weeks and I need to say your story is inspiring. You have been through hell getting to this point but your faith has kept you grounded. A lesser man may have quit several times. I am looking at entering the oil field services division of Schneider here in Texas. The pay is great, the daily time home is a benefit and they have tuition reimbursement. Being 42 and in different fields my whole life, trucking is going to be a challenge but with noone calling me to work, I am going where the jobs are. I wish you continued success. May the Lord keep you and bless you. Thank you for all the information. I dont think I can pee in a cup either....

You honor me by having read this thread. And yes, faith has everything to do with it.
I knew this was something I could do, so that played a part in staying the course. I found that when ever things weren't working out, it was for a reason. Working for USX is comfortable and so far, it's working out. The money keeps getting better as I become more efficient.
I'm leaving in a couple of hours to make a run to Texas after I pick up in Ohio. I just finished my trip planning, so I decided to check in on the forum.
Good luck with your training. I think you'll enjoy every minute of it. Let me know how you're making out.
Oh, and trust me, if the situation presents itself......you'll pee in a cup. -

But seriously-sounds like you are settling in and getting some miles and good for you! I hope your stop got your electronics fixed (while you were watching your home on wheels being fixed maybe they put you up in a place where you DON'T have to pee in a cup LOL!!)
NYC suxs not matter which way you slice it. The ex went thru there on several occasions and said he could not belive how the 'big' trucks were treated (like anyone else) the tolls and the traffic! No wonder no one wants to drive thru NYC!! I don't blame them the few times I have been there it scares me and I can't imagine driving a car there!! I would rather park outside the city and take the train in!!!
So now you are off to Texas-talk about extremes from the east coast! Right about now it is probably a GOOD thing since they are calling for snow across much of NY state on Thursday -just 1-2 inches but enough to muck it all up!
