    I would wonder about that.

If the mechanic is just faking paperwork and not performing the work, could they really catch it?

The heads up would be a plus to make them really dig in. If the driver had copies of the daily inspections and not signed back forms.:biggrin_25514:

    I hear ya...

Sometimes it seems the DOT makes things up as they go... Just was talking to a guy I work with and he said a couple of years ago he was running Ag exempt (Propane)... He crossed a state line for about 15 or 20 miles came right back to the exempt state and just kept running exempt.

Well, he got pulled around in the exempt state chicken shack and the DOT told him he lost exempt status because he crossed state lines... wrote him a citation and put him OOS.... The driver asked the DOT... "Isn't your reasoning for this citation like saying.... You can pee on this side of the swimming pool, but you cannot pee on the other side"?

Thankfully, a judge saw the drivers point of view in this circumstance and the fine was dismissed... but he was OOS for 10hrs

Many AG exemptions are for Intra-state operations only.

    That is just the rule.

Sheesh another one, yeah yeah yeah.... The law also says I need to wear a seat belt while driving my car... Gasp! Somehow, I'm totally 'exempt' from this seatbelt law while driving my motorcycle.

And here is where common sense goes out the window.

Not that I agree with a guv'mint agency making rules to protect adults from themselves (seat belt and helmet laws) But. Seat belts keep you from bouncing off the interior of the car. To require a seat belt on a bike is ridiculous because if you go down on a bike, you want to get away from it ...so you don't get tangled up in it.

Perhaps there is a better example....like you can't drive past 11 hours in a truck, while it seems to be perfectly safe for drivers of cars.

Look, it's like this... if you were unfortunate to be in an accident say hitting somthing at 45MPH... and you had the choice of being on a bike or in a car with no seat belt.... which would it be?

I'd pick the car every time.

Oh, but it used to be 10. Now it's 11...but wait, they might change it to 10 again with some goofy break in the middle. Then again, those other guys want to change it to 8. They don't know what safe is.

Kinda like. "Wear your seatbelt or I'll shoot you in the face....for safety..."
