    You would want experience running a tanker in a ND winter for sure. I've run through there for the last couple of winters and there will be stretches (like say around Williston) with literally, no joke, 20 trucks on the ditch in a 10 mile stretch. I've seen it with my own eyes. I wouldn't recommend any newbie running exclusively high-line of the US in the winter, especially with fuel tankers and such. Dangerous stuff.

    Schneider is the only logical option for a starter OTR company. The rest treat you like dog meat. You just need to survive the first until you can land something far better.

    I am not sure of your experience with starter companies besides SNI, but from what I've read and researched, there are actually a number of good starter, OTR companies... I could name them, but I really don't want the competition as I am currently applying to them :biggrin_25522:

    Well, as for how it's going, I'm still in the research end of things, called roughly 4 companies so far today, and am trying to get all my ducks in a row. As of right now, I'm praying to get into a truck at the very quickest moment possible. I'm really looking forward to this as a career, even knowing all the downfalls. It's my only logical option- and my fiance's stoked too. We can't wait to get out of this town, and make some decent money for once. As for anything immediate, I don't foresee anything happening until January or so at the earliest, as my 21st birthday is on the 22nd of December. But- I'll just keep counting the days till I get in a truck and make my first check doing something worth doing.

    And I really can't wait to be taking my fiance with me while I do it. But on another note, how's trucking for you guys? Love it, hate it? Just trying to prepare myself for the worst possible so that at the very least, I'll expect it when it's coming, and at best- I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's not as bad as I hear.

    If I can get going with it, my plan is to save up for my own truck, and get going as an owner op in a few years. I hear that's where some real money's at.

    Good point, but I stand by my statement as I don't want to add to the competition that counts - the smart students who do their research on TTR:biggrin_25525:. Also, the companies I was referring to accept students, but do not use the aggressive recruiting techniques that companies such as SNI, CRST, ROEHL, etc... utilize.... Again, not to say there is not competition!

    I think Schneider offers company sponsored training and they will hire rookies for oilfield work. You could be home nightly and make a nice weekly salary.

    Update: Still no luck as to getting a job. Can any of you think of even bottom of the barrel type companies? I'd settle for just about anything, now.

    You aren't even 21 Y.O. yet.......

    Just find a crummy local job until springtime, when trucking picks up.

    Then start applying to all the training companies........
