The very first step you need to do is see your doctor. Talk to him or her about you wanting to drive a CMV and if there's a better medication you can take. You'll also need a letter from the doctor stating that it's safe to drive on that medication. With that letter you'll be covering your ### and doing what is right. You can look at the requirement in the FMCSR's §382.213 to see what the doctor needs to do. I don't know if your medication is a controlled substance or not but it's already caused you a problem so IMHO why not go in with all the backing you can get?

Whatever you do, believe what other drivers are saying about lying on job applications. It's a legal document that can be used against you in court. I've read when a couple of our drivers had to go to court over a law suit and the lawyers dug so deep into what they did there was no secrets. It was as bad as getting a security clearance. There was also a case where a pintle hook broke and the lawyers went all the way back to the manufacture. They did their best to find any mistakes the driver might have done including checking his medical record. Bottom line is tell them the truth.

Get all you records together and fill out applications everywhere. Just don't do them on-line get out and look too. You can download trucking companies in your area and go knock on their door. I was in the Navy and found a part-time driving job out of Jacksonville FL and everyone said there was no jobs there too. So keep looking and sooner or later it will happen.

Okay, here's what I decided to do. I will call up Wil Trans and ask if they will allow me to drive if I take lamictal if I have a doctors notice. If they say yes, then everything will be okay. If not, I might have to think of something. I want to take all the necessary precautions to save my job. I won't take it behind their back if I have to. Its not like I go into panic attacks if I don't have it, and I've been off it before. I'm taking a risk no matter what I do.

Lamictal is also used for bipolar and mood disorders not just for epilepsy. It is one of those drugs that has several uses. The unfortunate side effect of the burning skin rash is something which has occurred in patients when they were first being treated with it. If this side effect does not occur then the patient can continue to take it.

No where in the drug label warnings does it say you should not operate a motor vehicle while using it. There are no side effects of sleepiness or anything like that.

The Dot physical does not test for antidepressants only for controlled substances which this drug is not.

And if im not mistaken you do not need to divulge use of an antidepressant unless it is a controlled substance or it is a medication which clearly states you shouldnt operate a MV or causes sleepiness, dizziness, blurred vision...so on and so forth. Or if you have a medical history or medication which would affect you DOT physical. Which I see this medication will not affect. Unless you feel your medicine is going to hinder you from doing the duck walk or from stepping up and down for a minute or from climbing into the back of a trailer.

If you are ok when not taking this medication then you need to sit down with your doctor and explain this and get there blessing to stop taking it. In which case you will not have to say you are taking medication because you wont be.

Don't think trucking will do anything but increase the "drama" in your life.

Another thing you could do is go to your your doctor and have them right up a medical clearance which states your medication in no way will affect your ability to drive a CMV.

Just wanted to add to your posts, over course don't lie that's been covered. There are so many companies out there I think one reason you are having problems is because you are going after the mega-carriers. Try going for some smaller companies. They are a little more forgiving and their insurance doesn't dictate what they have to do. Yes its going to be a little harder and require more work on your part but those are the jobs worth the extra work. The best companies to work for don't advertise. They don't have too. Their turn-over rate is a lot lower.

I've been doing that as well. I'm just so eager to go on the road that I'll take whatever I can find. Ideally, I want to local or regional(as oppose to all 50 states), so I can be closer to my family, but its just so exhausting to find a job. Its been a year and a half journey for me and I don't want to come up empty handed.

Last thing I'd like to mention. While the medicine helps and you should never not take it unless instructed. You gotta do a lot of self thinking. This job is stressful as hell at times.make sure you can handle the responsibility and not break down. Good luck.
