I might be the one out of date then. Indiana for sure will restrict your license if you road test with a automatic.

GA will too as it states it right in the cdl test manual.

TX does not have any such restriction on Class A. Don't know about B or others. If you are a driver you can drive anything they put you in.

I agree, but that's the way this school does it. I would rather just train and use a manual. Can't be a 13-low-low for creeping in reverse..

The best thing to do is jack it up and throw a 10spd in it...well a 13 or 18spd will also work :biggrin_25525:

Personally, I would ask for my money back and go to a different school. If they aren't willing to stick with a particular type of transmission then they aren't worth my time and money. The FMCSA should outlaw automatic trucks in driving schools. It's like teaching/training for a PPL in a airplane equipped with a GPS. Throw that student pilot into basics and they'll wonder WTF???

Any school training on automatics should be shut down. Its bad enough that the regular old CDL mill doesnt prepare their students for driving, but teaching them in an automatic is just over the line. They just do it to push more students out the door faster.
