Does anyone know anything about Smokey Mountain Traning Institute

Hey Stranger45 I am interested in this school as well. Also I have no clue about Tenn. Tech of Knoxville. So if anyone has any experience with this school would be much appreciated for any info. Thanks.

 

Last I heard they were going out of business. I called there a few weeks ago to ask some questions and their phone was disconnected.

There are better options in the area.

 

SMTI is not out of business. I just got approved for the WIA grant from the Career Center and I will be attending there starting Monday.

 

OK, wasnt sure what the deal was. My buddy wanted to go to school and their phone was disconnected. I went by there and there were no trucks in the lot and no one answered the door.

He ended up going to Tennessee Truck Driving School instead.

Did you end up getting WIA to pay the whole thing. My buddy talked to his career center and they told them they could only cover $1000 of it.

 

Yeah they are covering the entire cost of the school's tuition.

Just out of curiosity, what county did you apply in? My friend is in Blount county. Could it be that some counties pay more than others?

Also, why Smokey Mountain over other choices in the area?

My buddy enrolled in TTDS but doesnt start until the 28th. Just wondering if he's making the right choice. What did Smokey Mountain end up costing?

 

I am in Knox County. I went to the Career Center on University Avenue. I am not sure why I was able to get them to cover the entire cost. It might have something to do with my personal financial situation or the fact they was only two people in the group of people that was at the Career Center's Orientation applying for the Truck Driving Grant.

I chose Smokey Mountain because I want to drive for Crete Carrier and they only accept graduates from certain company approved schools. Smokey Mountain is basically the only school within driving distance to Knoxville.
