Hey everyone. I have 2 weeks left outah my 4 week A class here in MT Vernon WA. I started the app process early so i could get a head start. I received a call friday from w/s, letting me know my app looks great. They gave me an orientation date on Nov 28'th in Missoula. Im so freaking excited, but a little nervous to basically start my experience at the beginning of winter. Im originally a Montana boy anyways, so have lots of exp driving on snow and ice, but that was with 9k Ford pickup not a 80k tractor. Im sure all will be good, looking forward to restarting my career and joining what seems to me a great family. (p.s. I have to big of a mellon for hats, so u wont hear any crying from me about jokes about ball caps)
Any questions from prospects or lookers from real Watkins and Shepard drivers?

oh and welcome!! -
I've been reading W/S threads for some time now, actually got hooked when TA was a "newbie". Excuse my terminology there TA I really dont think you were ever "new".
When Tom first piped into this thread I was wondering what the Hell this guy was talking about, he came from left field with some statement and confused the heck out of me. Anyway, as this thread progressed he continued to do the same. He first touched on having shifting issues and immediately was gone so obviously he wasn't up to par to drive on his own. His trainer will have his hands full with this one. Excuse my interuption.....Carry on lol

Lol I found out the joke.
"You need two of those hats, one to #### in and the other to cover it up with."
Also found out that he got rejected by cr england. He got kicked out because he couldn't drive. He was excessively annoying. Couldn't finish a sentence. So on so forth. I showed kelby the post he made and all of our comments to it and had him and rick rolling with the tom bashing session. I find it amusing that he is the stereotypical "I couldn't make it there so I will bash the company" person.

Hi there fellow W/S drivers. I have read the posts and applied today. I do not have a CDL A but have a B. Just wondering if anyone has been through the school at W/S? I read its 4 weeks and pretty fast-paced which isn't a problem. Anything I should inquire about from the recruiters? Also, my current company our trucks are autos. Never driven a stick or double-clutched. My friend says that is better since I wouldn't be set in my ways but more open to learning. Your thoughts? Thanks

W/S no longer has a school they closed it down a few years ago, the website hasnt been updated since 2008.
you'll have to go to a CDL school to get you Class A before they will hire you. Shifting isnt hard at all, it may take you a few days to get it down but once you get your head wrapped around it you'll have it, just like backing.

Thanks for letting me know. I will have to check into schooling in my area. -
I'm having a hell of time trying to figure out a good starting company.
Can any newer W/S drivers tell me roughly how much a week gross that a newbie driver with W/S can expect to make? I know it changes from week to week.
I was looking into Central Refrigerated and figured its about 600-700/wk gross there. Is W/S better than that?
Also, what percentage of the time do you guys haul furniture? How often do you have to unload it yourself?
Thanks -
As a solo driver you should gross $40,000 to $50,000 your first year. I made a little over $45,500 my first year gross so devide that by how many weeks you want to work a year.
if its an LTL furniture you will have to unload it, how much of it you do will depend on where you live and where you are at the time. 100% of what comes out of conover NC is furniture but not all of it is LTL.
You'll deffinatly make more here then Central, but dont expect a New Peterbilt...that wont happen
