I drove straight truck in Marine Corps (925) and a single axle for 3 1/2 years. Then I drove a dump in northern Michigan for about 2 years. I never got my CDL and now wishing that i had, have always had a love for the road.

I have searched the net over and over again. I have heard good and bad things about sponsored truck driving schools.

I am triying to find a company sponsored training program (money is a issue not to mention credit). Also, being in a school for 3 weeks without any income (not sure the wife would like that much). But, have found it to be a bit overwhelming.

does anyone have any suggestions and or company's they recommend?

I live 45 minutes nw of chicago, if there is anything near it would be great.

Most of the stories you hear about the cdl schools VS company training are basically tall tales and semantics. The majority of drivers train with cdl schools even if they are predestined for other companies. MOST trucking companies contract out their training to existing schools. Call the companies that you want to work for and get the backgrounds and applications out of the way! Then choose between the offers that come in. It is always better to have several pre-hires before even talking to some trucking school! The trucking companies can tell you what they will or will not accept as training that they CAN accept.

You are in a prime freight area so there are going to be a lot of companies interested. And of course after some time in a training company, your in an area with loads of local and dedicated work.

Not to t/j but Been drivin for 8+ months with same company then went to another company hoping for better but drive worst equip. smaller co. I thought would be better but they are putting my safety at risk. so, go back to old company or go to another all together or try to stay and work it out? I hate to keep jumping co to co and I like stability and want to stay somewhere for a while.

Look at Roehl's honor program for veterans. You can use the GI bill and they are not far from you in Marshfield WI. They are supposedly very good to work for. I'd look into it and be very careful about some of the companies that offer paid training. Some have a very bad reputation for turning you into a slave for a year or booting you and coming after you for a large training bill.
