Pollard Flats, CA on the 5 just north of Lakehead, CA. Small old diner with parkign for maybe 30 trucks. Great food and awesome people. Always made it a point to stop there. Happened to lay over there the night before Thanksgiving 5 or 6 years ago, when I was grabbing breakfast the waitress asked if I was staying for dinner. They had 16 turkeys and all the fixings for free to all the drivers and anyone who happened to be through there. If any of you are through there, stop on in.

I have heard the old Travel Plaza at exit 34 off I-74 in Crawfordsville, In used to be a good one years ago. There is a little spot on the south side of Route 10 in between US41 and Illinios. Also Green Acres on US63 south of Cayuga, In, Good eating at all three of these spots. There was another mom and pop think called Grandma's Kitchen I-65 thinkin Remington, In. Now closed down.

Here's one I remember, not being a truck driver in the '60s and 70's. It was called Transport Inn and Cafe. It was located along US-50 on the west side of Emporia, KS. I think it closed around '78. The restaurant was a Quonset shaped building. My friend and I would go in there in the early mornings before setting out to duck hunt. Made great pancakes, and biscuits & gravy..

I just found out today that the old National Truck Stop in Texas on I-20 closed around July of this year. I think that it was exit 599. Apparently, they didn't pay their taxes and they were sold to a bank. All for $74,000 in taxes. At one time they had pretty good food. There is a fuel stop, of sorts, next door with a Laundromat and Sonic. They do have diesel, but no showers.
