I left out mt from the house on Monday and went to Sdi in butler. Got one of those huge ugly coils from door #2. I miss judged the size of it and needed to butterfly my steel tarps to cover it. Did not pull enough forward so had to pull it all from the rear.
It worked, but was the ugliest tarp job I ever did....stayed dry though in the rain, so that is the important thing.
Made it to the Mav yard in Madison. Changed out a steel tarp, two canvas tarps that I got from my repower last week. Also got rid of the extra dunnage on the truck.
Delivered at Heidtman Steel in Granite City and got a load right across the street at Precoat metals heading to Central States in Mt Airy.
They let us tarp inside because of the rain and there was no one pushing you to get finished quickly. Got 6 skidded coils.
As I was getting my paper work a day cab pulled out of one of the bays and as soon as the wind hit his truck his tarp flew off from the back and he was running over it.
My guess he did a very quick tarp job. He ended up spending more time fixing it than if he would have done it right the first time.
I made it to just past grayson Ky and spent the night. Started driving at 0500 and made my delivery to Central States.
My next load was to get a pre loaded trailer down in Monroe NC at Charlotte Pipe.
Got a message right away saying that I would not be able to make my delivery on time. So I contacted Graylin and told him and he said to wait until I got loaded to see how much time I would have...i told him on a 996 mile run, I could not predict at this point.
Got to the yard and found my trailer. Hooked it up and found that the large turn signal under the middle of the trailer did not work. So I put in my breakdown macro.
I looked at it, but was not sure how to take it apart and did not want to break the lense.
The guy got there and the clip had broken and it was not attached. He reconnected it and taped it and it was ready to go. I am pretty sure it was broken when the guy dropped it off and left me with his problem.
I could have probably made it up to Mt Airy again, but because of the time it took for the repair truck to get there, I spent the night.
Hit the road at 0300. Etap said I would have one hour left when I made my delivery.
It was a multi stop, one in Waukesha and one in Milwaukee.
So it was imperative that I get as many miles to be set up to make the delivery and get a load to come home.
I made it to Spiceland In and spent the night.
I went to bead by 16:30 and was up at 00:00. I was going to sacrifice some of my 14 to be able to get around Chicago and through Milwaukee before rush hour hit.
Went past Chicago around 03:00...no traffic problems at all...lol
By the time I hit Milwaukee, it was starting to build up heavy.
Made it to the first drop early and he unloaded me. The next drop was 18 miles away.
I got there early and he unloaded me as well.
So I had over 4 hours left of drive time...I was really happy as I wanted to get home.
Got a load right away to pick up at Chicago Exporters in Batavia Il.
Got 14 crates of parts stacked two high. I was over 6 feet high.
Had to use my edge protectors to protect my straps from the rough plywood, my three canvas tarps to protect my vinal tarps, and two lumber tarps.
These crates were on steel runners, so I put a trip chain on the front and back.
The load only weighed 23,000 lbs.
I was out of hours and had notified my fleet manager that I would be out and would need to come to the Gary yard. He said ok.
I then thought to call the police and ask if I could park on the roads in the industrial park. He told me as long as I was out by 01:00 I could park there.
So I was up at 00:00 again and on the road by 00:30
Made my load checks along the way and took breaks to make coffee.
I was home by 08:30 ct.
I will be heading up the the truck tonight as I need to be rolling by 05:00 tomorrow.
I am going to Conneaut Lake Pa.
These parts come in from china in a container, they take them off of the container and then ship them right out on another truck.
I had some interesting conversations with the container drivers. They were amazed at how much work I had to do.
I just told them it was my paid work out program!
As I mentioned, I have a new smart phone and I can access the forum now. I will try to give detailed daily updates like I did when I first started.
Hope you all have a great week!

I meant to say one other thing. I sent my fleet manager a note stating that the tarp pay would need to be adjusted if it was not figured in at Lumber Tarp Rate....$20.00.
This was a brokered load so I thought there was a good chance that it was not.
Withing 15 minutes a got a message giving me an additional $10.00. It all adds up at the end of the year.
Anytime I have ever asked for an adjustment, I have always received it.

I dont know what Jim uses but I can offer opinions on the iphone and motorola atrix(a droid phone). I personally prefer the iphone for ease of operation, much better apps and all around great phone with few problems. The one down side I didnt like about the iphone was no flash player compatibility so some websites I couldnt view but that was very minimal. Also the iphone 4 wasnt a 4g phone so that is why at my last upgrade I went with the Atrix 4g. After having it for several months now I can say positively I dislike the droid way of doing things. They basically try to make it very similar to how a pc operates which makes the phone complex to use to take full advantage of all of its functions. Not to mention poor app selection imho plus like a pc my phone locks up regularly. A real pain in the arse since the only way to solve a lock up is battery removal versus the iphones which just requires pushing two buttons at the same time and holding til the phone restarts. Now as far as using either phone for trucking they have both been very useful and I wont go without a smartphone anymore otr. They are definitely worth the extra cost each month. I use ATT but I have a buddy who uses Verizon and he is happy with it otr as well. I hear Sprint can be spotty away from major cities and interstates.

I was looking at the iPhone 4s with Verizon as a carrier. Do you also take a laptop with you? I feel as though a laptop would be nice to have, for the large screen. Do you know if the iPhone can tether to a PC for web access?
