    You're right on target. The cost is over a billion dollars per year in lost productivity, loss of jobs and further puts the U.S.A. behind the economic eight ball in being able to compete with a global market.

    While the DOT may pass the new rule because of the outcry from the general public (voters), it will be challenged all the way to the Supreme Court. With 2012 being an election year I doubt much if anything will be resolved until after the elections.

    You will definantly see something. Rules were sent to the WH OMB late last month for review and publishing in the Federal Register later this month.

    There has to be some sort of change or there would be nothing to review or publish.

    So we'll see it... pretty sure litigation will ensue and maybe we wont have to deal with it for a while... But we will see what the FMCSA wants.

    Did you bother to read the entire sentence? I said, "...in effect" meaning "we won't have to deal with it for awhile."

    Yup... ATA has already indicated that they're going to court if FMCSA materially changes the rules - and they'll ask for the new rule to be suspended until after the final ruling.

    Can the trucks fuel tank(s) be full with the reefer fuel tank full and you can still haul close to 80k in the lightweights without going over in the scalehouse? I understand that you have to position the freight in the trailer evenly to be legal on steers, drives and tandems and i know you have to move tandems a tad to get the numbers even. Also if the truck has one fuel tank, how many gallons does it hold?

    Lost on this one? Gross is 80K including the truck, so you never haul 80K in cargo, there is no doubt you will have to scale down your cargo, if you have all the fuel tanks full. I'm sure those scaled down trucks give you better fuel economy and allow you more flexibilty with your gross.

    The lightweights with a 100xxx,110xxx or 120xxx trailer can scale 49k of freight. Some of them have a single fuel tank (90 gallons I think... not sure though,) others have two; just means you're going to have extra shower credits.

    Fuel economy depends greatly on a driver's technique - you can see as much as 30 or 40% difference between two different drivers in the same truck with the same load.
