Heck just drop a gear and try to keep it below 60. And remember there is a scale just inside NC that is almost always open. :biggrin_25525:

You know those little signs below the sign that means 'Curve Ahead'? That little sign shows what speed big-rigs should use to go around that curve. They're pretty serious about them. You may want to start out by going 5 mph slower (or so) and play it by ear.

You'll be fine. I drove pneumatic tanks around LA for a while and there are some nasty (tight & off camber) curves connecting all those freeways. I did see some guys with the 'B' tank on its side but I managed to keep the rubber side down.

actually those signs are the suggested speed for cars, not big trucks. Same with the exit ramp speeds.....We should usually be 5-10mph slower than the recommended speed for cars.

As for Fancy Gap, it will be an experience but of you've been running PA for the last few weeks then it should not be anything. Some of those downhill curves on the PA turnpike are far worse.

Yes I already try to take those curves about 10 miles less and if I need more speed I give a little more but I still stay below that suggested limit some other truckers get mad and go around me but thats what that left lane is for going around my slow behind I've got kids at my house wanting me to home to them

Who gives a sh it what another driver thinks of your speed or driving. Only go at the speed your comfortable and only do what u feel is right. There are plenty of cross' along the roadside from guys who had too big of an ego to listen to what their brain was telling them.

When I worked for Stevens Transport I had to go down mountains the old fashioned way because back then Stevens didn't equip their trucks with jake brakes. A fact not lost on my fellow drivers, who would often make snide comments about how slow we were going downhill on big hills like Donner Pass or Grapevine$

I ignored them or politely told them to pay more attention to their driving than mine. Often enough I found the more obnoxious drivers ended up smoking their brakes hardcore when they suddenly came upon a bear or DOT watching the hill or blew the fuse to their jakes..

Speaking of jakes, I never experienced descending a hill with an engine brake until I got the job I have now so I had to teach myself how to properly utilize it. I practiced on Transmountain Rd. in El Paso a few times on my way to park after delivering or picking up on the West side (I park and live on the East Side).

I'd rather go down than up with 72,000! It's no biggie, really. If I were to name my worst trucking hills, Fancy Gap wouldn't even make the list.
