Do most of the bigger companies like Armor, Midland, Clarkes, etc supply CB radios in all of their trucks for company drivers? I graduate from my school in January and might pick one up for Christmas. But if i'm more than likely going to see one in whatever truck I get into then I won't spend the money on it.

I know of no company that provides a cb in the truck. Good Luck and Merry Christmas

If the company leases the tractor it may come with a CB radio in it. The company I work for leases their tractors from Ryder and they all have radios in them

Sunbury and Midland, in NB, years ago USED to put CB's in company trucks that were slip seat units such as B train chip units and pulp and tissue paper trucks. All the above would run 24/7 with multiple drivers. The CB was imperative, at the time, for talking to security, loaders, shunters, scale houses, mills, etc etc. On the other hand, assigned company trucks that were on the highway had antenna, co-ax, and power hook-up, but no CB. That was a driver add-on on the highway. You probably wouldn't want a company CB anyway, they're cheap and the range is about 11 feet. Buy a good one. Cobra, or Uniden. See the CB forum on this site. DON'T buy new to start. You can get a really good used CB on sites like KIJIJI.

You barely hear anything on them anyways, dont worry to much about having one.

There are plenty of us out there that still shout out to broke down drivers, warn drivers heading towards hazards in their lane, and road closures...
I will agree that there is a lot of crap that comes over the radio in larger centers and near truck stops, but as was mentioned before many places want you to contact their security via the Cb radio...
To the original poster, just go to any pilot/flying j/ta/petro and get yourself a cobra 29 and you will be set up regardless of whether the truck has a radio in it or not.
Just in case you missed my point at the beginning of this post I will lay it out for you.
The CB Radio is just one more tool in your arsenal which can be a lifesaver if used properly, do your part, and if you see a hazard that other truck drivers should know about dont be afraid to let them know before its become a dangerous situation...MONT74 and Elroythekid Thank this. -

Ditto here in sask . We use it once a blue moon in Manitoba to chat if two trucks are in wascada area at the same time. Otherwise all you hear are bounced signals from Illinois yakking about nothing

Nate is right, VHF is the main source of communication in the west. Cb is rarely used.
