Really? Humm.. Atlas did some type of screening with the few I/Cs that were there when we were, though they were on a different schedule than we were so I did not see it first hand.

Do they just do sleep apnea screen, BP or something?

    No...it's even sneakier than that.

They give you a simple questionnaire to fill out.

And, the insurance company through Schneider will offer that $250 deal. Many drivers have their wife fill it out. Then find out she answered enough questions to "flag" you as a possible "apnea" sufferer.

THEN...you will be told you must take the screening. Or seek other employment.

I had a fresh 2mo old medical card so i was able to use that and not have to do another physical. There is no bp check or that testing for ic's.

They only do sleep.apnea testing if there is somethi.g eluding to it on your long form physical or if you are dumb enough to tell them you have it.on that questionare they have you fill out. Im not worried about that. Im a big ol boy but i dont have sleep apnea and i am familiar with it. My father and wife both have it. But i sure dont want to have to go through the sleep study. I have the oposite problem. Instead of constantly waking up you cant wake me up for nothing.

That can be a HUGE problem for some.

I talked with a Werner driver at the Breezewood T/A that told me about his ordeal with that. He said he had been an a fairly successful O/O for many years till he started having difficulty waking up. He said he started over sleeping and missing PU and delivery times; ended up serious enough problem that he could not find a company to haul for. He ended up loosing his truck and all. Said he went through all kinds of medical testing and no major problems were found; did not have sleep apnea or neurological problems; doctors could not determine the cause.

I hope your situation never gets like his.

As far as Apnea goes. I'm a much nicer guy with my machine than without it.
During my study, finding out I wake up an average of 26 times an hour , tells me why I was sooooooo much more tired waking up than going to bed to begin with. Also , my body is no where near as sore now as when I wasnt diagnosed.

I've seen other posts elsewhere that seem to suggest a fear or invasion of privacy in someway if a company finds out about a drivers apnea.

    Why is that?

I would think , a company would support actual restful sleep for the drivers of their equipment.

I know Schneider does. To the point of paying for the studies and the machine.

    :biggrin_2555:

Makes my complaint seem like I'm whining about getting up 4 times, after drinking 2 pots of coffee before bedtime. :biggrin_25525:

I'm surprised you could even get out of bed the next morning....at all.

I've been diagnosed with a "serious" caffeine addiction. :biggrin_25523:
If I'm awake. I'm drinking coffee....simple as that.

Doc tried to cut me off during a short hospital stay. Didn't go well for him or the nurses.:biggrin_25520:
