I would suggest that all rookies start out with teams. The money is better. You have someone there to help you out of a jam.

Sleeping in a moving truck is a huge factor.
Myself i could never do it. The few trips i tried team i bet i only got about 6 hours sleep to the west coast and back.

As far as the comment of all rookies need to start out running team....BS!
Not everyone needs someone to hold their hand....man up and do the job solo.
It will be a better learning experience and the feeling of accomplishment of a job well done.

There aren't enough drivers willing to team with rookies to have all rookies start that way .
Yeah right , get them out of the sleeper and help with some silly "jam" and the whole 10/10 routine gets thrown out of wack .

It's hard enough running solo. With my luck I would get a team partner with the same attitude as myself......not good.

I tried! I am a light sleeper and every time the other driver hit the brakes or ground a gear i was wide awake.
I ended up running the west coast solo and got more sleep....No big deal in a triple digit truck back in those days.I still got home every weekend.

For me this week it was hell. As soon as we left the yard he turned on this heavy metal crap wide open and wouldn't turn it down. He couldn't shift, kept slamming it in gear, I told him if he would turn off the jake brake it would be easier.

He took tons of breaks while driving but didn't log it as such, so he could get out of driving 10 hours, only drove about 7 if that. I had to do most of the driving, especially when it was time to go to the shipper or reciever, he made sure he was in the bunk for all of that action.

Filthy pig, but most truck drivers are, fat, stinking piece of garbage. Oh, and did I mention he liked to drink his own piss. He would piss in his coffee jug, rinse it out with some hot water then walk right over to the coffee machine and pour him a cup and start drinking. At every customer he had a surprise, a big jug of piss as soon as I pulled in he would throw it in their parking lot.

Then I learned he has had over 50 assault charges in his life, nice, shouldn't be too surprised though he is after all your average truck driver in America, fat, stinks, no education, convicted felon, thinks he can really drive but can't and thinks that driving a truck is a repectable job to others. Get a life you trailer trash piece of garbage truck driver.

Im at the end of my 6 months teaming coast to coast. Its very difficult to sleep in a moving truck, that is true-but even more difficult is trying to get along with your partner when you are stuck with each other 24 hours a day. I would recomend going solo first- consider teaming only after you expand your network of local drivers who may also want to team-find out if you are compatible before you go out.
