Just curious to know if anyone owns this product or has considered purchasing it. This device is a thin plate that attaches behind the existing trailer licence plate and has a wireless sensor that goes on the dash that tells you how far an object (the dock, etc.!) is behind you. It's only about $50 bucks.

I had considered buying one for a friend's truck a while back, but it was pricey with lots of wires and stuff so I passed. Then I saw this wireless one.

If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know. You can see it on their facebook page under smartplates.

    Is it worth buying?
    Thanks,
    Bridgett

These type of devices can end up being more of a safety issue than not having it. Driver relies on it and doesn't look behind them and some "smaller" item that is not detected is behing them and NO BEEP so all is good - crunch.

If driver can't see the dock in mirrors then they need to be getting out and looking.

I do agree, these are good in cars but on a tractor trailer not so much. I would like to see a tractor trailer parallel park with that Ford parking system.

Sure, as long as it's used as intended....as a tool, not as a know all to end all.

I want one! I am so sick of looking out my mirrors. It is bad enough that I have to look out the windshield all day. Maybe if I can afford one of those collision warning systems I won't have to do that either.

    SHC Thanks this.

Ok, I'm with Spax. put cameras all around, give me a 32" screen on dash and I could split screen it up so that can watch a movie with all the different camera angles around the edges.

Automatic trucks with big GPS's the driver relies solely on. Trucks with back up cams and collision detection systems and now a backup radar?

This is why there are more steering wheel holders than truck drivers on the road.
