Well, passed my CDL driving test today which I guess officially makes me a rookie according to my instructor.
Had USX "pre-accept" my application two weeks ago. I called them this afternoon to let the recruiting dept. know. I now have my CDL so,.... I hope to hear something back from them on Monday. Definitely ready to get truckin!
I've read a lot of stories and just hope that I make it in the industry. Wish me luck and I'll keep you all posted.
Here I go (USXpress ??)

I've heard some bad stories about US Express, but go in with a good attitude. Don't shoot yourself in the foot time and time again with demands and preconceptions that disappoint. I don't think USEx is nearly as bad as some of the worst companies, so it may work out well for you.
Good luck. -
welcome to the life.although you may see many posts saying bad things about various trucking companies, let me give you a little advise-don't always believe what a trucker says, let alone what he writes.all trucking companies are good in the aspect that they entrust you to safely operate a newer truck to gain experience in trucking.you will make money learning how to really drive a truck.you will hear stories (catch that-stories),of how one company is lousy and another is so great.these are personal opinions-remember that.go in there ready, willing and able to accept any assignment given-follow the rules and give it 100%.if you demonstrate that with any company, you will succeed.trust me, there WILL be days of sitting in some lousy place waiting for a load-thats part of trucking. as your dispatcher gets to know your willingness to take any and all loads without boo-hooing,you'll be his #1 guy to get the job done..the rewards come AFTER you pay your dues in this industry.good luck and enjoy those autoshifts they have-at least till they screw up,i own one of their old trucks.
jack1964 Thanks this. -
If your running 48 States or if you get on a dedicated account, you should do well with US Xpress!!! When I ran 48 States for them about 4 years ago, I was very happy, and spoiled with there automatics! Good Luck.

That's true. When one driver tells you a particular company sucks, definitely pay attention, but don't change your travel plans.
When ten THOUSAND tell you a particular company sucks, you ignore them at your own grave risk. I know I'd be perking up my ears and heeding the advice of only 50 drivers today. This is because I learned....the hard way. About 50 drivers would be a consensus for me.
Follow the herd. -
Like my Dad always told me about me possibly going to Interstate Dist. (2end gen driver) "Dont even think about calling yourself a driver, If you start driving those automatic trucks, automatics are for the handicap and women, you will be a Steering Wheel Holder thats all" I would write what his Dad said but that would get me kicked off here, as of my dad he is still running log trucks.......3 heart attacks later, I guess you cant teach an old dog new tricks, I honestly dont think he knows what a log book is either, but the auto's sound nice in traffic, I heard they are a pain in the ##### to back? is this true? please let me know and I hope I didnt piss too many people off, but you can only imagine the #### I get flung I hear it every day, "when I was driving, we didnt have this we didnt have that, WTF is quallcom? is that an STD...and so on and so on....

I should be coming there In October. I signed up for east regional, because I'm I little leary about 48 states. I have about 1.5 years experience, but still nervous about 48 state driving. I can't shake that. I guess because winter's coming up. Someone told me staying only in the east is no better. I drove the 48 a little, but only during summer. And was mainly in the southeast for winter.

Well, got my call today. I leave for orientation on Sept. 25th. Orientation starts on the 26th. Could have left sooner but wanted to give my current employer at least a 2 weeks notice.
I will keep everyone posted on how things go.
Right now,...... I'm getting excited and am ready to get trained and get out there! -
Instead of shifting you can do bicep curls while you drive, for the smarty pants who think you're unmanly, just take em to the gun show. Good luck.
