I got home a couple days before Christmas. I had to pay bills and when I was done. I was left with a $1.87 in the bank. The miles for the week were just 348 for the week. So already know that the next check isn't going to cover anything for the next couple weeks. The day before Xmas and the phone rings. It was my family calling. Are you coming for Xmas dinner? I said, no not going to be able to make it this year. I don't have any money to by presents or the gas to drive the 60 miles to your house. The gas I have in the pick-up. I have to have to go back over to the yard Monday to go back on the road. So I will have to spend Xmas at home this year. Family says, I thought you were making a good living. I said, no! Not working marten. I make maybe enough to cover some of the bills . Anything extra, I have find the money some where else or do with out. So this year, I don't get to have Xmas or spend it with family. Sorry I can't make it this year for Xmas. Maybe next year. Thanks for calling. It's nice to know that some one cares. Happy holidays!! Christmas day I spent watching old DVDs and hoping things will get better. Now the Saturday after Xmas. I can see that the new year is going to be brought in with worry doubt and hunger working at marten as a driver. I sure hope every one else out there on the road had happier holidays then I did.

You could help yourself out by leaving Marten, just another horrible OTR company.

That's the problem ... Marten used to be an "OTR" carrier, now they are just another "regional" carrier ... meaning short miles (few miles), too many instances (wait time) at shippers and consignees throughout the week, but they try and tell you the "home time" is worth the "reduced miles". All the "home time" in the world don't mean sh&t if you're having to eat beans and bologne every day to survive on the meager pay/income.

I found a good mid-size carrier, avg length of haul is 1500+ miles, half is drop/hook and I'm always bumping up against my 70 hours and/or quickly burning up a fresh restart. But I run and don't seek hometime. Drivers who require consistent home time, and want to drive "OTR or Regional" MUST resign themselves to $500 - $800 weeks, no ifs ands or buts in today's trucking world.

That is exactly what Marten wants. Keep you broke and hungry. You are a slave on Marten's plantation. What is the difference between a driver like yourself and a black slave some 150 years ago??? The slave could run away and you can quit.

I got fired from marten in 09. Made the mistake of reaching the top of thier payrate. But .42 cpm didn't mean squat times 1200 miles a week. Best firing I ever had. Still Hafta get to that thank you letter

You don't state your experience? If you are a newbie, you need to get your time in and move on.

If you are experienced, you already have the attitude, it's time to move on.

If you know you have to put 3 months in, make the best of it. Dispatchers can sense the attitude thing and it just makes it worse. Good luck, 2012 will be better.

You would make more flipping burgers and you would be home every day.

Do yourself and your family a favor, find a different outfit. Pronto.

Sounds like someone fell for that "Make $54,000.00 A Year" trap that companies sucker new drivers with.

A well managed "regional" carrier does not confine a driver to meager paychecks. I worked for the same regional carrier as a company driver (most of that time), avg length of haul 500 miles, for almost 12 years and made more money than most solos at mega carriers doing OTR. Was averaging close $60K a year and home every weekend. The Martens and Schneiders of the world obviously don't know how to do this. That's the trouble with drivers they expect so much of these bottom feeders with all the vast resources of the internet at their disposal and they still sign on with these mega carriers. And I have to say maybe it is unfair of me to chrachterize these mega carriers as bottom feeders. In all likely hood I could get a job with any of the so called bottom feeders and make an excellent living just because I know what to expect, what is expected, and how to work a system. Not everyone has my inclination nor motivation.

Marten sucks plain and simple. They do nothing but lie and treat their drivers like crap. There is a Facebook group called The Truth About Marten Transport. Check it out.
