Best company to start with as a student that has prepass and a good dot rating.

Yep, true, I'm extra cautious about my weight, pre pass isn't a get out of jail free card like praisegod2012 thinks it is. But let him learn the hard way. The most important thing I look at picking up a load is where are the tandems and what states am I running through, and what is my weight on tandems, drives and steers

 

Prepass makes you lazy, if you know you're going to be going in to every open scale it provides extra motivation to make sure everything is as it should be.

 

You better be sure anyway because you never know when you'll be redlighted . There is no guarantee of a green light .
If your carrier has a poor safety rating your PrePass will get you redlighted and INSPECT will show up in red letters on the screen in the scalehouse .

Yes me and my million years have learned me a thing or two. Pre Pass can work against you just as many times as it works for you. You dont have the slightest clue want went on in the 50's and you have even less of a clue as to what goes on today.

You are under the incorrect assumption that if you work for a good company Pre Pass gives you a green light, and you keep rolling.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Thats not even remotely how it works. Pre Pass tells the DOT who that trucks is, and it allows them to determine based on any of about a million different variables if they want to see you or not. It has NOTHING to do with if you work for a good company or not.

Let me give you an example. Lets say the DOT at a specific scale house is bringing everybody in. 100% of trucks must enter scale (yes they can do that, and they do do it DAILY!) even though you have a pre pass you must enter. Now lets say you work for Swift, earlier that day one of the Swift drivers while in the scale house bad mouthed the DOT cops favorite football team, pissing of that DOT cop. That DOT cop has now decided that ALL SWIFT trucks will enter his scale, and he's going to make their lives hell for the rest of the week. So.... now even though you have a Pre Pass in your truck (by God!) youre gonna get a red light and have to pull in every time you pass that scale house.

Pre Pass is a little more involved than those radio commercials you are hearing lol.

BTW, I own and pay for my own Pre Pass LOL. I never said it was or was not a good thing. It is a tool, and in the correct hands it is a #### good tool.

Right on kansas. I work for a company with a good safety rating and the scales on i70 in md would red light me all the time. Even in a daycab with a empty flatbed. It weight 26500 empty. So praise god how did prepass help me there.

The scale in Anthony, NM often shuts their prepass off after midnight. I guess so they can let it all hang out.

 

While I agree with most of what the posters have said, I do have prepass and it's a valuable tool to me. It's been nearly three weeks since I've been pulled in.
Lot of luck and timing to part of that, but it's a great tool.
No, it doesn't make me lazy. I'm legal, I weigh and load to be legal.
And I agree...using prepass as a consideration for choosing a training company is not a great idea.
Choose according to your needs and wants, the skills they can give you and your future plans for the industry.
