This is a difficult subject for me, but my brother is to be released soon from prison. He has been in for a very long time, but is about to complete his sentence. What are his chances in this industry for obtaining a OTR job? Appreciate any advice on this. thanks, Rhonda

It depends what was he in prison for? Will he be on parole? If so for how long?

As long as he is on parole he won't be able to leave the state. Which means he wouldn't be able to work as a trucker. Once he is off parole he has a chance. A slim one but he does have one. While he is on parole he needs to try to keep a steady job and stay out of trouble. Good luck to you and him. I hope things work out for you guys.

I'm not sure about either state to be honest with you. I live in NY. I know up here the PO will help with trying to find work.transportHER Thanks this. -
Thank you for the advice! -
My wife's uncle spent quite a few years in prison on drug trafficking charges and he got his cdl and is an owner operator and just recently paid off his truck. He's based in El Paso like I am.

If he's in FL DoC, there is no parole. He'll be free to go. As far as trucking goes, no big company will hire him. He'd have to luck out and find a small company that can afford the insurance to train, and is willing to take a chance. Looking at it from an employers POV in today's world, if he were to get into an altercation while representing the employer and hurt someone bad, the employer would be successfully sued for everything they had due to his history.
