Hey Markus, you don't need the board. The whole purpose is so that you can write your directions on the windshield so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I used all different colors but usually the red and or black shows up better at night. Don't write directly in your line of sight. I would write in the left corner of the windshield or in the very center of the windshield. You can also write on the side window but if you roll your window down it will get erased. This is also really great for writing down phone#'s, reminders, truck stop exits, etc...

Another tip or trick for you new guys; if you replace your reading lamps/lights in the cab of your truck with red or blue bulbs you can leave them on at night while driving and it won't blind you. You guys are new and not very familiar with your truck in the dark and this can help immensely.

I'll toss the board on the bunk and try the windshield. Good idea. The last couple of weeks SNI has had me runni g between central PA and New England....I was in Boston this morning...now in Scranton....tomorrow it's New Bedford, Mass...New Mexico sounds really good about now.

I used to work Security and my main job was checking drivers in and out. Honestly it was what pushed me to want to be a driver. A lot of the guys I worked with had a chip on their shoulder and felt like they had to be a cop or something. As for me, I would risk my job and let the truckers relax in the P.Lot for a bit (They wasn't supposed to but We had no cameras, why treat people like dirt for 7.25 an hour?) most security guards at your stops are misearble because its depressing, stressful, and like trucks, is one of the most unappreciated people ever even though they risk their life for practically nothing. I loved it though, nothing like listening to an ol trucker tell a few stories and get paid for settin around but then I got out of college and had to find a better job lol. Anyways just look over em man, most of them are under achievers and the others are just scared to get in trouble. Best of luck to you pal.

Hey thanks for that insight...I tend to take people at their word...if they act like they have authority...then I let them have it (authority ) I've found that if I joke a little with them...or act human....often I get a little smile back. Thanks

So, now....after another week...almost...I'm looking at my life and wondering...pondering our situation. As an inexperienced driver I'm at the bottom...probably won't make over $30K this year...and that's working 14hrs a day....away from home....sleeping in a truck. What the heck am I thinking? I paid more in taxes, when things were good, than ill even make this year...gross! But --- That was then..this is now. My original thought was that I'd do this for a year or maybe two.... Then figure out how to retire..or slow down,.... this is hard work. I've been up at 2 or 3 every morning this week.... I don't know...gotta think about this. I have a possible offer to go back to one of my old careers, radio. I'm pretty good at that. But trucking? I have a long way to go before I can ally dock without making an absolute fool of myself. Hmmm[IMG]

I am finishing my day out at a TS in Mass....spending some time on my iPad...and I wanted to find your post...since we met in Carlisle. So, how was the week? Are you still in it? I suspect you'll be going out with a TE in a day or two. Best of luck to you...you are a delightful person. Hope we meet again. Mark

    Hi Mark.

It's a struggle at first, I know. This is a 'performance based' industry, unlike the traditional jobs we've all had in the past. The money gets better slowly as you refine your methods that you employ to help get the job done.

You'll find, if you stick with it, that it does get easier the longer you do this. And the backing will get better in time. I found that each time I come back out after being on home time, my efficiency improves. Stepping away and then returning makes it easier to look at the job as a whole, instead of micro-managing one aspect.

Hang in there, my friend. All of us new old guys have to start at the bottom and work our way up. That's just the way it is.

    Stay safe.........Driver. :biggrin_25525:

Wedge, that's good advice...I am home now for a couple of days...the northeast regional job is 5 days out...then 34 hrs home. It is good to get home...but not really efficient because they have to arrange loads to get you I and out...hence some extra deadheading. After I'm here a few months I may ask for OTR .... The regional pay schedule makes up for short runs and live loads...but I would love a 800 mile assignment...or may e 2700. I had AA couple of conversations with a friend who runs a radio station...he can open a job up for me if I want it. I'm gonna stick with this for now...I don't hate it...it is an adjustment that's for sure. It's been two weeks now with no incidents....whew. Thanks for the encouragement I needed it. you are a good friend.
