Whats the deal? Are the oilfields hiring newbies or not?

I started to apply for oil field jobs about a month ago. I called one company today after not hearing anything from them and I basically was told that they were being inundated with applications and that I wouldn't have a chance since I don't have the expierance. This is quite a different message than I got before I went to trucking school. The only company interested in me so far is a hiring agency that wants me to sign a contract agreeing that I will be liable for a $2,000 fee if I don't show up to orientation or if I fail my background check. Seems to me they're going to be working extra hard to find a reason to get me to cough up the money. I don't think I want to take that kind of a chance even though I have a spotless criminal/driving record.

    What's the deal?

Halliburton, schlumberger, cal frac, and frac tech are all hiring in nd and require no experience. Www.theshopperinc.net. Jobs in the back. trucking companies can be more picky and require driving experience. You will hate to hear that halliburton and slb put u thru their own driving school.

The jobs are there but you will spend days making calls and submitting resumes. I wouldn't mess with the staffing companies and recruiters. There are plenty of them too.

Don't you have to go thru SOS Staffing to get on at schlumberger?

all craigslist ads in midland/oddesa and north dakota now asking 1-2 years exp. they also started lowering hourly rates.

slow season and the boom already peaked, so yea companies can be picky.

I wouldn't say the ND boom has peaked and I doubt TX has either. ND is suppose to have 30+ more rigs this summer and many more frac crews moving in. In ND, everyone was expecting a horrible winter like last year. Operators planned on slowing down in Jan, Feb. It has started to ramp up here now. There are just so many people and companies flocking to the area that everyone is less likely to take an inexperienced employee. Rates will be down in ND due to the influx of competition. Competition from frac crews, rigs, trucking companies, roustabouts, etc all drives the rates down. Companies from the nat gas areas like PA and TX are coming to ND to get a piece of that OIL money. Too bad it's the TX and PA companies that are destroying the ND rates! I hope nat gas goes to $5 so the gas fields get kicking again. It's a long shot though.

Hamm & Phillips hires new drivers to the oilfield but you have to have previous driving experience
