Been on elogs far a little over a year now. There have been several times that I rolled across a scale with my fingers crossed, before getting to a hotel or the yard with less than 30 minutes left on my 70. That would really be the worse. Have enough time to make it but the DOT uses up the rest of your 70 with an inspection leaving you at a scale for 34.

Left at a scale for 34? Why? Doesn't anyone know how to do a recap anymore? As soon as you pick up hours on the recap, take off. Simple. Why is everyone so stuck on the 34 reset thing? We never had the 34 reset until 2003, and we were able to get the job done. The last two weeks, I wasn't able to pull off a 34 reset. So I just did my recap and kept running. Hasn't hurt my bottom line. True, it takes a little gray matter between the ears to plan runs to make it all work, but nothing that we didn't have to do for years and years before the 34 reset showed up.

There is nothing mandatory about a 34 reset, even if you bump up against your 70.

Oh, and I am on elogs. Still do the same as I did for years before the 34 thing came on the scene. I do a 34 when it is workable. When not, I just recap and run. Elog doesn't give a rip. It just tracks away and recaps for me. It is a time saver for me not having to fiddle with paper.

I use to go 4-5 weeks without a reset. Most of these guys just want to hang out at the truckstop for a day and a half i guess.

Just run around 8.5 or 9 hours a day and you'll always have hours. I do this for weeks without having to take a 34.

why would any one want to only run 8.5 to 9 hours per day? that would suck! i dont care if i make 10 dollars per mile or 100 dollars per hour, unless im home i want to be moving down the road. 14 hours of driving with 10 off would be fine.. if i could do 11 on and 10 off with out ever running out of hours i would be happy..

Never understood the 70 hour rule. Never worried about stopping at a scale either. If your that close to being over chances are your not gonna make it.

Just a heads up I saw an old Palmantere truck(lady said they sold out?) At the 71 south scale below Florence, Ky get in a ringer.

She was supposedly on elogs, she even had the cool stickers on the truck, but she couldn't show the officer how she was logging, didn't have paper back ups, and couldn't show or fax her last 8 days.

I left but I'll wager she got to spend at least 10 there. Probably should go in DB's thread but she also wouldn't stop calling people to tell them she was gonna be late. I guess it is a discretionary thing but they are checking that drivers can demonstrate, show, and follow the laws.
