Do only the Western States have chain laws? Both either carrying and/or usage?

often you just have to chain to get up a hill. a distance of a few miles..

seems mighty silly to sit at the bottom because you don't do chains.

on top of that.. chaining is REALLY EASY. it only sucks when you're stuck and can't move the truck forward or backward. but I guess when the "I don't chain" people get stuck.. they don't try chain to get out of it they call a wrecker to move them 2'?

Chaining is easy and necessary if using in chain law in effect. Let me rephrase. I have only once been in a situation where I had to chain up. Not needed but had to. I'm no supertrucker but alot of it just comes down to using common sense. It hasn't failed me yet.

never been stuck yet (on the highway, parking lots yes, but worked it free) never had a wrecker other than mech. breakdown.

As far as i know, only a few mountain west states, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, dont know what the laws call for in the rest of the west.

I don't know about the other western states, but it seems Colorado DOT is the only one that actually gives out Smartphone EMails with chain alerts and the corresponding mile markers.
More of an early warning, a little more time to figure out if you want to keep pushing it towards Eisenhower or not.

That and the whole trailer/drag chain thing is optional up there, so when it comes to winter chaining, I actually enjoy the 70 out of all the rest.

Hardly anyone even carries chains in the Northeast, let alone uses them. It's a mountain west thing.

With all the salt that the northeast uses, you really don't need chains.

I'll never forget that night I was cruising through Pennsylvania on 80 in a mild to moderate snowstorm in 12 degree weather.....

There was so much salt being put down that the road stayed wet.

+1. Chaining up is not something I enjoy but is sometimes necessary.
