Love it too when people don't give the full context of the entire comment.
because if he's running an illegal radio, it's a matter of time he could get busted.
You know well enough you would be hung as well as a ham operator using an illegal radio. If skip is right, you'll get out. If the antenna is right, you'll be heard and hear. All the power will do is drown out the guys who don't have it. Just a matter of time before someone comes along with a 500w linear and blows you off the air.
Like I said, it's food for thought. Spend it on a cheap ### linear.
But don't let it be said he wasn't warned there are real consequences for doing it if busted. If you want to be the douche that recommends he do something illegal, go for it. I won't.
I got other things I'd rather do with $10,000 than play Russian roulette with an illegal radio.
what to do to a cobra 29 classic for more power.

What's the difference between a transistor and a linear?

Around where I'm at I don't think any one has a basic 4watt set up other than maybe my mother lol but I think even she is putting up 10. So people on a 4 around here are never heard. And ps 1 or 200 watts is that much compared to the dude around here that drives around on 30,000 watts no lie.

TackleBox...Don't pay these Ham guys on this site too much attention...Most here get their rocks off tearing new guys posts to shreds when they start asking how to get more power out of a CB Radio set-up.
There are allot more CB Radio type Forums on the Internet where you can get your questions answered allot quicker with out all the BS that go's on here by a few disturbed Ham operators that think their crap don't stink because they have a Ham license...(which by the way, anyone with a IQ above 4 can get)
Just Google CB Radio Forums, and see which ones pop-up, then check them out...Most of them may require you to join to be able to post and read the topics, It doesn't coat anything to join, so sign-up on as many as you like.
By the way...For the record, with the radio and antenna you have now, you could buy a Texas Star 500V and get around 450w's out on a peak meter...Lot's of ON-LINE CB Stores sell the Texas Star 500V...Good starter Amp... -

Trade the Cobra in on a new General HP. 100 watts built in.

I've been "freebanding" for over 30 years and haven't been caught yet but realize the chance is there.I bet I'll hit the lottery or he11 will freeze over before it happens.Run a clean station and use common sense on the "freebands" and chances are you won't be bothered. -
Agreed when ever I got the money I plan to buy a nice radio but I got this one for free all I did was buy the Wilson 5000 for it so it was a good deal. The dude that gave it to my runs a radio that with out any amps or #### like that puts out like 700 plus watts. And #### hams if I wanted a ham I wouldent be talking about cbs now would I. Any one happen to know the price on a small amp and or how to install them I'm good at intalling things as long as I know the right way to do it.
