The YouTube was great, but I would have enjoyed hearing a Jake.....!
I pushed one of these 'Yamaha' motors a million miles plus haul'in garbage east and anything we could get away with back. Seems like it would take all day to get over Donner no matter how much of a run ya got at it.
But it was a lot more fun to hot rod around town than the flame breathing 220......
Back in the day . . .

Really cool stuff for a 5 year old kid. I guess I was corrupted at a young age....
just think today it would be CHILD ABUSE to expose you to that NOISE , no child restraints ion the cab
freight shaker Thanks this. -
I saw one of the old HUMPIN TO PLEASE tr5ailers today. Had to slow down and look it over. I think that slogan might need to be resurected. Think the do-gooders would shut me down? First truck I drove was a U mack 250 5spd. Strap a D6 behind it and watch the smoke roll.

I have great memories being in the jump seat as a kid. But... times have changed. My company doesn't want my kids around the truck whatsoever. -
I remember when my boy was about two years old it was getting cold out side it started getting late about 1am and his mother came out after us he was running in the cold playing with something. She got all nutty telling me I had no sense and I was a dumb ### and that baby is gonna freeze to death. I told her to relax he had been sound a sleep in the bunk until I jacked the cab up and then he was sound a sleep on the dash That was my old cabover road commode if anybody remembers them

I'm a young blood in this game, but if it helps the first time I ever drive a truck it was a 1953 Mack COE with a 4x4 and 2 speed rears. I told the farmer I wanted a job (I was 13) and he told me to get into the cab and take the truck back up to the dryer (about a mile away across the field) and once I climbed in I had no clue. He told me I'd figure it out and sure enough I did. I drove that truck going about 1mph all the way across te field. Once I got it there he came out the house and told be to be back at 4am.....and that was the beginning of it all, other than te fact my father and grandfather were drivers. But that old farmer gave me the green light and I took it and ran

my boy is 21 now and starting in april he will be an owner operator with his own tractor and my trailer. He got his start by working for a Harley Davidson dealer. He went there when he was 15 he got his license 2 weeks after he turned 16and that same day they had him picking up and delivering bikes to there customers with there pickup in a couple weeks he was hauling bikes with a trailer. That is when he said he was gonna be a truck driver. I had thought he would stay with HD.Anyway when he was 18 he went out on the harvest and then to a large feedlot/cattle company in nebraska.April 1st will be his last day there and he is coming back to Pa and lease on to Great american lines so maybe in 30 years he may be on here talking about the good old days. Wish him luck Ladies and Gentleman Do you think rolling him out of the bunk and onto the dash so long ago had anything to do with this?.
homeskillet, Grubby, Logan76 and 3 others Thank this.
