Let's go one step farther
1360.00 a month and let's just go 10 months cause of time off etc ...
1360 x 10 = 13,600 in fuel savings in one year
Now this is probably a best case scenario but it is very much in the relhm ..
I think a person could easily save over 11,000 by slowing down EASILY ...
Your truck payment is 1,200 a month
1,200 x 12 = 14,400 a year
Ok if you save even the 11,000 it's a big burden off your back ...
If you get at the 13,600 mark well your truck is dang near FREE over the course of a year ...
Just by slowing down .... Nothing else
Whats up with 62 mph?

I've got 2 trucks that haul grain, in addition to the flats. The difference between 55-60-65 could easily be 1 load per truck per day. The day the total success of my business is hinging on $1000 per month is day I find something else to do. I've spent that in truck washes. However your free to drive whatever speed you wish, just do it in the right lane please. Some of us have stuff to do. -
I'm not in the $1.00 a mile crowd but I'm in the $1.60 -1.65 mile crowd for all miles but none the less ... Everyone has their goals and that's what makes us individuals and business owners ...
To each their own ...
There's no wrong or right in this talk it's simply a decision -
Well don't stop now. If your truck is getting 6.3-6.5 at 70, and you're not running heavy/oversize, there's something wrong with it. If you don't have the sense to fix it, it's all on you.
My last truck, once I finally convinced the owner to just get the #### thing fixed already, averaged over 7 at 70. It was an 02 International with nearly a million miles on it and was not well taken care of at all.
Job before that, we ran 06 T600's with 475 cats that some idiot spec'd out completely wrong and turned the power down on. All of them were limited to 65 and had to downshift to pull an empty trailer up a regular hill. Pathetic for that engine not to mention a huge waste of money since they all averaged 6-6.5. All except for one of them that for some reason was limited to 72 and they didn't notice. That one, identical in every other way to the others, averaged 7.3. Interesting. Meanwhile, the entire O/O side of the fleet, not limited and not shy about running the speed limit or faster, averaged 7.3 or better while the company trucks averaged 6.3 or worse running slower.
Before that, I ran another t600 with 425 cat limited to 70 and averaged 7.5-7.8 the entire time I drove it.
I see these guys talking about saving $10k a year and wasting it on a bass boat. Why not sink a little cash into your truck that you supposedly care about to make it more efficient so you you don't have to drive like my great grandfather? If you're driving a classic, that's one thing. Trading off a bit of mileage for looks, comfort, or preference. But if your running an aero truck, there's no excuse for it. -
Some of us just plain don't feel the need for speed. I have stayed in the 60-65 range for driving speed ever since the speed limits got raised from 55 mph across the board. I can't tell that it has cost me anything to not run 70+ mph. Likewise, not sure it has saved me a whole bundle because I have never went around running faster to compare. It is just the pace I like to drive. My current truck, because it was one of those generic fleet spec'd trucks, is really spec'd right for any speed. But the one I have on order will be spec'd right for the speeds I like to run and ought to have some pretty impressive numbers down the road.

I would rather have the
when I look at the $ I have saved than some driver going
when I pass him. I run the posted speed if needed and compensate so as not to a so called TRAFFIC hazard but there are no LAND SPEED RECORDS happening.

My truck is governed to 67. I don't mind it.
22 years ago, that would have been considered a fast truck. Of course, the speed limit back then was also 55mph too. -
$4.00 to $5.00 per gallon have to figuure out the best way to stretch it out so they take home more than pocket change. -
As well as not every road is 70 to 80 MPH , love the response from some " its 75 MPH out West " , ask them if they run west get UMM NO !
-
Ask me if I run NY , MA , CT , or RI ....UMMM NO !
