I guess that's why i'm taking so long to decide on this thing. Although I am paying the loan out of my pocket now, being with a big company scared me into reconsidering what I wanted. I looked at USX and after so many negative comments, I question if they are right for me as well. I mystery wrapped in a riddle, it seems. Guess I'll keep rolling these dang drinks until I find something. I'll be taking a mess of drinks to the trucks stops in Jackson, Ga. tomorrow for ya'll to enjoy. Be safe.

If you're a lazy stick in the mud who just wants to drive, many OTR companies aren't for you, neither are many locals. If you enjoy hard work, you'll make much more money in this field -

Irish Mike's experience was not a anomaly people. I described what would happen when he went to work for them as a solo driver for the most part before he even did it.
They have been pushing the Dollar General account since they got it years ago because they can't keep people on it. They like to target drivers that are new to trucking and don't know what they are getting into. Most drivers are not in the kind of physical condition it takes to hand unload a cubed out 43000 pound load every day, and so they get hurt. You can even be in good condition and get hurt bad on that account. When it first started one guy was hit in the side of the head by a big jar of pickles that some fool threw on the top of the load loaded up high and fell. That driver lost his eye sight in one eye and will never drive again.
When you have a job that requires you to pass a physical to stay employed why risk a ruptured disk, hernia or worse lumping bags of dog food kitty litter or powered soap and cases of soda? -
I just had to comment on this "We arrive back at Medway and are told that if the truck was not done by Saturday, we could use a day cab to get the load to Findley, Ohio. That was cool; I'd at least get some hours in towards my 150. At this point, I only have 33 hours in 7 days. At this pace, it will take 5 or more weeks to get the hours over." Where at in Findlay were you suppose to deliver at? I was just wondering cause thats where im from. Sorry that USX didn't work out for you. Schneider would take you on that's where i first started out at and they have a great training program but i will tell you there pay stinks .27 per mile for a new driver but again there training program is great. Just have to weigh your options and decide what you want out of a trucking company, good luck.

I drove Auto-shift trucks for 7 years and currently drive a 13 and have driven 9's and 10's before driving auto. For me as a regional driver I would prefer auto over manual any day. I would prefer auto driving a CMV in the traffic I deal with on a daily basis . Unless you have no experience why would you want to have to shift a truck if you did not need to? I don't like the fact that they took the clutch out but other then that I liked not having to shift a truck.
