Sounds like the shooter was an employee of the Sheriffs Office, and a part time member of the local city police department. Mayor had the town on a lockdown and under a "Gag Order". News to me, never knew that a mayor has such authority.

I saw it on the Earthlink ticker about the same time it came up here, one of the victims was a 14 year old girl. It's a tragedy for the community, but as far as a lock down,Wisconsin has always been a little more uptight than most places about law enforcement, so when one of their own goes off, they would certainly do everything they could to control the story. The deputy also worked as a part time police officer for the city.

I have a saying about crazy people, they aren't all locked up, some wear badges and carry guns, some run for office, and some of us just try to get by without getting into too much trouble.

I think 20 years old is to young for a police officer, I also think 21 is a little to young. They need to rasie the age min. to 23-25. Most young men that age don't have the majurity to do that kind of job.

Obviously this kid had some issues, but blaming it on the department is not fair. If there was no history, no obvious signs, no red flags during the background check how can a department predict something like this? I think it's a fair question for people ask tough. The public should know if there was something the department should have seen, or acted on.

There hasn't been much news out of Wisconsin about the tragic shooting early Sunday morning, state police and FBI investigators are there trying to figure out what happened. The shooting was different in that a law enforcement officer who was off duty was the shooter of 7 out of 14 people at a pizza party, 6 of whom died. All of those 7 had the town's high school in common, at least 3 were graduates and at least 3 were currently students there.

Life endures but individual people do not, 7 young people, including the shooter are no longer among us and 1 more is injured. All of the current events are aimed at trying to find out what happened and to restore the faith of the survivors in authority.

Sanity is valued by most of us, sane people don't do such things. I wish these things never happened, but as long as there are people on this earth, there will be crimes. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and survivors of this tragedy.

It's mostly young people that want to be in law enforcement, you could specify all kinds of qualifications, and it would all be for nothing because the courts decide what stays law and what is removed. Maybe new cops need more supervision; a longer period of mentoring from experienced officers. I don't know how long he had been a deputy, he liked police work enough to work part time as a city policeman, too. Power goes to some people's heads.l

One instance in a country as large as ours does not denote a trend, but if you include other irrational actions, maybe it does.

It sounds like he was having girl troubles and just snapped. Some people have a hard time with rejection no matter how stable they may seem.
