They are top secret, cuz if the word got out, other drivers would be saying they would be willing to do it for 98K, then 82k, then 74K, and pretty soon the pay rates would be in the gutter like most freight companies rates are!

It's impossible to make over 50k on your 1st year. It doesn't matter if you're company or a o/o (you have to know what you're doing to be successful as a o/o).

I also drive for the government. 60k a year to haul US mail. About 80k if you were to include overtime, night differential pay, sunday and holiday premiums.

I can tell you that hauling gasoline for a major oil company you can make well over 50K a year. I was hourly at $23.50 an hour and anything over 10 hours was OT. The OT was there every week so you could work your normal 4 days a week pull an extra load per day for 12 hour day and then an extra day for OT and that comes out to $1645 for a 60 hour week. If you did that every week your gross would be up in the $85K range. Now the bad news. The major oil companies know this and are starting to close their terminals and shift the work over to a common carrier. It was great while it lasted.

Our company drivers would make 70 plus, but I dont think any of them are going to stay in company trucks for a full year, so its hard to say.

Major oil companies also don't hire student drivers. The ones that do don't pay students that well. Yes, it's very easy to make over 50k a year as a trucker, not as a student though.

You can make $50,000 in trucking in under 15 years. There are jobs you can do over $80,000 as well. Those are the kind you have to handtruck off your trailer. It can be done.

    Typhoid36 Thanks this.

Yup. Most local gigs that have you doing the 'dirty work' are usually the highest paying jobs in the industry. BUT, they will not hire anyone. Just because you have the experience doesn't mean you have the job. It just means you meet their minimum standards.

when I first started driving I worked for 7-Up, had I stuck with it til the end of the year (I started in April), I would have made $40K. It depended on the route. Then I drove for a company that delivered to McD's stores, it was mileage + piece count + hourly. Again, depending on the route, $40K to $55K first year was possible. There again, both are physically intensive jobs. My current company I've been with for 14 yrs, I grossed $50K + 10 of those years.

You're right. They are very selective on who they hire.

The Union Refinery tank yankers up here make about $90,000 but the job is almost impossible to get, unless your family is employed there or you know somebody really well. I've talked to quite a few of them about it.

I'm currently making about $68,000-72,000 depending on the year... this includes bonuses. Not many of the other company driver make that up here so I'm happy with it.
