Anyone thinking of working for Napa transportation in Mechanicsburg Pa., think twice. They will tell you will be home weekends if do not wish to work weekends. They will start out that way but your weekends will get shorter from two days to one. They will have you some where away from home so that you might get home to pass by. They say you will be home for thanksgiving and christmas. Does 2 hour for thanks giving count? Christmas was almost as bad, gave me a load to get home christmas morning. I ended uprenting a car to get home christmas eve. then they called christmas morning wanting to know where I was. When i told them home, they said my load home was sitting in the yard. That is after i told them i was going home. When I got back to the truck on monday morning, i told them i was ready to go. They had me sitting all day with no responsesto messages that i sent them. after sitting all day they wanted me run aload over night.
They will givee you 300 mile loads after sitting waiting for a load after you deliver in the morning pushing your 14 hr clock.
What broke the camels back was when i was sent in to pick up a live load saturday and the placce was closed . I called them and was on hold for over 10 min. I sent them messages and got no response. Ended up spending the weekend in a truck stop, instead of being home.
When I told them to bring to the yard . Surprise I get a 700 mile load. I told them I would bring it to the yard in the morning. At 1230 that night they had sent a truck and took the load. Then they charged me $1.50 per mile to get the load and for me taking the trk back to the yard, for a total of 147 miles.
When I talked to them about my vacation pay they said I would not get it because I did not give them two weeks notice.

I'm curious, did they specially promise that you'd be off weekends in writing? Also was the run multi-state or were you regional dedicated?

I've had a similar experience with Werner Enterprises, so I can understand you being frustrated. But sometimes the load planner screws up and doesn't take weekends into account. Not all shippers are open on weekends, however that doesn't excuse your dispatcher ignoring you, I agree.

I'm confused about this the most, do you mean you gave them an ETA of in the morning, or were you not able to go pick the load up right away?

How exactly did they justify billing you for the load? And when you say they denied you the vacation pay, how long had you been with the company? Because you wont even accrue vacation time until after a full years service or more, with most companies.

The not giving two weeks notice, at what point did you quit?

During orientation they told use it was a 5 days and we could work weekends if we wanted to. I ran their system. I told the terminal manager that I would bring the load to Mechanicsburg terminal around 9am, the afternoon before.
I worked for them from 10/10 to march of this year. Their poly that is in the handbook states after 1 year you get 1 week of vacation. I had not taken any vacation.
In looking into the labor laws of Mass it states vacation pay is considered wages and must be paid. Them saying i had to give two weeks notice is wrong. I am going to print out the law and send it too them and possibly file a complaint with the Mass AG.

Did you ask for a vacation or just automatically assumed you'd get one?Maybe they was'nt even aware of it.I agree, you don't have to give them a 2 weeks notice.Afterall, how many give a 2 weeks notice if they're closing.

In Texas vacation is considered a benefit therefore they dont have to pay for unused vacation if you leave. Not sure about your state though.

The handbook states that after being employed you get 1 week paid vacation. My year there was last Oct. I planned on take vacation this summer.
From reading the Mass laws vacation pay can not be witheld because it is considered wages. I believe that since Napa operates in Mass and I'm aresident, they would have to operate under it. The Ag bagged Ryder Logistics for the same reason. Cost Ryder $225,000 to 170 employees.
I don't see how they can charge me to bring the truck back as unauthirized miles. Was I to leave it 50 miles from the terminal? That would be abandonment.

You wanna know about their lease? Part of it says you won't get your escrow til 45-90 days after you quit or are terminated so imagine what the rest of it looks like. Ask your buddy to send you a copy.
