I have no horse in the race ... But if you google

Lone Mountain Truck Leasing Rip off Report

I think around 6 or 7 come up and some speak of the insurance stuff , and also the inspections , dynos etc .

Never been there , never leased a truck from them but thought I'd take a little closer look at them as a whole .. It's some pretty good reads and the CEO has some rebuttals and some other customers chime in .

It seems to me that if you are going to say negative things about a company that you should provide additional information rather than shooting from the hip. I don't know anything about Lone Mountain. There have been those who have posted both positive and negative about them. Most of the comments on the forum seem to be more positive. If any company stays in business long enough you can hear some negative comments about them. They may be true or false. In either case, it would be more helpful if you are saying something about a company if you would provide sufficient information so that people can draw their own conclusions. Often times it may only be a misunderstanding or the buying simply didn't do their homework before buying a truck. Whatever the reason, it helps if a poster could provide more of an explanation.

the true problem is not lone mountain, it is the purchaser. buying a used truck is no different anywhere you buy.

its no different than with used cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers , etc.

you have to accept responsibility to ensure you know what to look for, or pay someone else to look for any problems. that is with any purchase of used equipment.

a salesman's job is to sell, same as a army recruiter. his job is to get you signed up.

if you dont know that you shouldnt be buying a truck.

many guys go get a truck and barely have the down payment, much less enough to pay for a dyno and dot inspection. they look at it as "saving" money.

say you get a dot and find problems you have spent 75.00 to save yourself headaches. if you cant spare enough to perhaps dot check up to 3 trucks, then dyno one , you might should reconsider.

the posters who seem to post complaints have a completely different story than what i encountered at lone mountain.

i was told the exact procedure, i could take the truck anywhere of my choosing for a dot inspection and dyno, i also had the option of not doing either.

i chose to do it . but i also knew how to look for certain things and crawled on my back under several trucks.

while there i saw a guy come in , drive a truck, came back and was told the same thing i was. he chose to not do any and paid his money and left with truck in a couple of hours. have no idea how that turned out.

many buy and hope things turn out well, they hope the roll of the dice comes up a winner. i know several guys leased where i am that have had good service with their trucks, see many at truckstops and everyone i talked to have been satisfied.

they were upfront with me and everyone i personally have met have the same story.

its like many on here who say you cant make it as an owner /op, while there are many of us that do well. usually the ones who say you cant make it have failed in their business adventure.

in the time i have had my truck , i have replaced the belt, replaced clutch, replaced starter, and replaced springs bushing in the front end, in addition to other routine maintenance .

the clutch release bearing failed , no ones fault just failed all at once,.

and as far as the insurance deal, all that is explained up front, i understood it fine.

Not everyone can make it as an owner operator. Some are not cut out to run a business. I have known some good drivers who were not good businessmen. When you buy a piece of equipment you take your chances. It is up to you as the buyer, to check it out and make sure that it is in good shape. When you buy from a dealer he may or may not have checked it out thoroughly. Sometimes, dealers buy equipment, clean it up and then put it on the lot to be sold. Unless there is a good reason to go further, they may not do any more to the truck. If you don't know what to look for then you need to spend a little money having someone check it out for you before you buy it. With some people whatever happens to them is someone else fault.

You can still make a good living as an owner operator. It can be challenging at times, but the opportunities are still there. The economy and political wrangling make it more challenging, but some of us will continue to survive and prosper.

Regardless of where you buy equipment, things will break and components will fail. That is with anything mechanical. That is why those of us who have been around for many years advise new people to have some cash put back to take care of unexpected repairs. You can't spend everything that you earn without putting money back into your business. I have had a lot of things happen with my equipment over the years. Anyone who has owned class 8 equipment for any length of time understands that there will be times when you will break down.

A good mechanic can do a thorough check on any equipment that you are thinking about buying. He may charge a couple of hundred dollars for his time, but it can be well worth it. Just having a dot check done can spot many problems. Having a dyno and oil analysis can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about the mechanics of the truck. That can usually be done for under $400, last time I checked. It is cheap insurance. If you choose to just do a road test and they buy the truck without going further, you may do just fine. But, there could be problems that are not obvious and will show up in a few weeks.

If you lease or purchase more truck than you can afford, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Just because you can get a truck financed, doesn't necessarily mean that you should buy or lease it. You don't want to start out with a big truck payment. We are living with a fragile economy. If things go bad then you want to be able to make your payments. When payments are too big then you won't be able to make them.

I have not bought a truck from lone mountain but i have seen flyers in many truck stops from owner operators burnt by them.
They have 5 bbb complaints and 16 ripp off report complaints and many on truckers forum.
The best thing to do is read them all and make an informed decision.
I also heard they repo trucks when trucks are 5 days late on payments and also install a gps unit and leave you stranded when they repo your truck.

hhg hauler, i have never seen a flyer in any truckstop. and there are many more satisfied customers than unhappy customers. and never have heard of someone getting repoed 5 days late, lol.

havent spotted a gps unit if they did put one in here.

but then again i have never been late with a payment, and if ya make ya payments no need to worry about the repo man. and if ya dont make your payments are they supposed to fly you home or something????/

your post is funny, almost laughable. if ya dont make your payments , they somehow owe you a ride home , LMAO

i would bet most of the rip off complaints and bbb are folks who couldnt make their payments because of the truck they bought ( their version of the story)and it got repoed

I agree skateboardman. They will even move 1 payment to the back of the loan if you have a big repair bill and can't make a payment for the month

I can only post what i have seen and heard i saw a flyer in Phoenix Flying J and spoke to Owner Operators that have purchased from them and have had a bad experience. Personally i don't about Lone Mountain but it seems you both have there best intrest at hand and you are spoke person for them. Also i heard from a driver that they repoed his truck 5 days late and they had put a GPS TRACKER IN HIS TRUCK AND THEN ACTIVATED IT ON THE 5 DAY AND LEFT HIM STRANDED WITH A LOADED TRAILER ON HIS BACK.I was going to purchase from them wit all the negative reports i went some where else. Just saying what i heard and saw myself i really don't care either way i am neutral in this .
    Thanks
