Annnd now, the Sage Report! Man, I can't believe I'm almost done. We went over extreme driving conditions today.. Tomorrow's the last day of classroom work, then I drive tomorrow night, twice on Thursday, twice on Friday, and twice on Saturday! (If I didn't know better, I'd say they're tryin to get me the heck outta there! Which works for me, 'cept that it kinda puts the rush on the jobsearch!)
Hopefully I'll find something soon. Gordon tells me they're currently looking at other applicants (what a nice way of saying "um.. no."). I have possibly caught a break from May Trucking -- talked to them today and they are proceeding with my background check! (Now the problem is talking my wife into not leaving if I'm gone more than a couple weeks at a time...)![]()

Good call on May and I hope it works out for you. Give JBS a call as well and see if they are willing to give you a chance. Getting something that isn't OTR is going to be difficult. I know Swift and Werner run regional out of Denver which would get you home quicker. What about going OTR and taking your wife with you?

The key is to get that valuable experience for 12 to 24 months then you can write your ticket to just about any job at that point. The first year or two are usually the worst in terms of pay and as many others have pointed out on here, we all have to start at the bottom and work our way up. Keep your driving record and DAC clean and you will be able to get in with the more prominent companies. Or you may really like working with Schneider and just stay with them. Schneider does have an awesome freight base and you can get into different kinds of freight such as tankers if you wish.
Keeps us posted on how things are going for you and how its working out at Sage. When do you begin attending Sage? -

Now Sage requires that you have three pre-hires for attending their training course. My recommendation to you is to go ahead and get your three pre-hires from three of the big companies like Werner, Swift and Watkins Shepard. That way you have fulfilled the requirement from Sage. Remember that the pre-hires aren't really worth a darn. Especially considering you still have to go through Sage and get your CDL. There was a guy in my class that was out of work for two years due to several shoulder surgeries. He had a pre-hire from Werner and every intention of working for Werner once he finished his training and had his CDL in hand. To make a long story short, he completed his Sage training and got his CDL. He then approached Werner about the job and they turned him down saying that he didn't have a job for the past two years so there wasn't anything they could do for him. He explained the situation to them about the shoulder surgeries and that he had a complete medical release from his doctor and Werner didn't care. So even though they had given him a pre-hire and he had spoken with their recruiting over the phone and was told he was good to go, they backed out and didn't give him the time of day.
Don't put any confidence in the pre-hire letters and just get them to satisfy the requirement at Sage. Once you are a few weeks out from completing the training and having your CDL, really start talking to Schneider and putting your apps in to where you would like to work. -
