Hello Chralb, Just wanted to let you know that I came across your blog a few weeks ago when I started CDL school on Long Island, NY. I read every single post and found it fascinating as a good read. I am particularly interested because I applied to Watkins and Shepard and was called by someone in their HR area and she said that I was being offered a position and I am tentatively scheduled to go on the 30th to Conover, NC for training. I actually take my road test on Friday, April 27th! Talk about cutting it close, eh? I learned a great deal from your blog and I was wondering what has happened to you these last four weeks as I have not seen any new postings. Hope all is well. I will be based, I am told, out of Sayerville, NJ, which is cool for me. When you went to Conover did anyone in your training group get a truck that was actually there waiting for them or did everyone need to jump around the country to get their rig? Look forward to hearing from you and would appreciate any additional advice.
Peace,
Pop -
Good to see you again after all this time. Enjoy your hometime and don't be a stranger.
chralb Thanks this. -
BigPoppaMack, I did my orientation in Conover back in July '09 and I can tell you there almost certainly won't be enough trucks there at the terminal for everybody who gets hired at the end of the ten days. You might get lucky and there will be an open one at Sayreville for you, but there's a decent chance you'll have to catch a ride with a driver headed toward wherever an open truck might be. I picked up my first truck in Sayreville and got dropped off there by a Conover driver on his way to Connecticut. You'll learn more during your ten days in Conover than you will from your CDL school, and you'll have a lot of fun. Tim runs a good training operation there.

There's an extra truck at Sayreville terminal. Freightliner I think it was.

It left on Tuesday.

It's good to get out of the truck for a bit. But...lol...my mom is having a pool put in and so far my home time has been spent coordinating the various contractors to get it done right.
I have to admit however, since I truley miss my passion for building, it's been fun to be involved in a project again!
Hoping to take the Harley out for the first spring ride later today.Wedge Thanks this.
