Even then you might be shooting yourself in the foot...
Once you tell them you'll do it they have you, why? because all they have to say is I never told that driver any such thing about pay them to shuttle. Now it turns into a he (driver) said / he or she (fleet/driver manager) said. And we all know that the majority of the time the fleet/driver manager will be the believed. That is of course unless you get in writing.

$100 for a shuttle, to me, isn't worth the time. So many things can go wrong with that simple drop. I had a driver hand over a load with a flat on the tandem chassis. It's easy to get it fixed at roadibility but I shouldn't inherit those headaches.

Another time it took me four hours to get the can popped which left no time to get an empty. Ended up spending the night at the port while the other drivers already had their reloads picked up.

I say get your load in and go get your reload. Doing a favor for your dispatcher, even for a $100, is never easy. No good deed goes unpunished.

Yes duckdriver you are wrong. Actually having the hazmat endorsement is a plus. It gives a driver more employment and load options. TWIC cards on the other hand may not,if the company doesn't go into ports a lot.

I suppose that rather than shuttle, you could park your truck and babysit the non-TWIC driver inside the secure area?

it depends on if there is a safe place outside the port to leave your truck alone while your inside (in my exp most ports arent driver freindly)

depends on who you work for....i've done favors for dispatch that have gotten me $300 + a 2000 mile D/H load, i've also done favors like start another log book that got me a 3600 mile week and home for thanksgiving afterwards... if your dispatch throws $100 and nothing else even after you get screwed, i agree dont waste your time on him or that company, good employers and dispachers will work to keep good drivers....

Did u or company pay for twic card? Do u get paid to jockey trailers? Besides a chance for more types of van loads. You will not see much benefit from have card. Where it really comes in handy is with tank drives, etc. Just been my experience. Best advise keep your record spotless. Pay your dues. Move on too where the money is. It is not in refer, general freight or basic flat beds. Follow the dotted line.

The twic can be handy since anywhere that has river barge traffic is considered a port. I beleive airports also( but not sure on that point) There are a couple of spots I pickup and deliver at in Illinois that require twic. Some companys will pay extra for hazmat loads, and not all hazmat requires safe havens for parking. All the twic facilitys I have been to do not allow overnight parking. A couple have had lots outside the fence for drivers to park. Some will let drivers in without a card, they make you wear a orange vest with the words Non Twic in big letters. Others make you be escorted without a card. Many though, simply will not let you in without it. Our company requires both hazmat and twic and also passport card. They do reimburse us for them though.
