I was approved yesterday with stevens.. i had several questions for current/former drivers of their who are on this forum
I have 100% flexibility with hometime and can stay out as long as they wish to keep me out and have zero requests other than simply to drive and work as much as possible.
I have heard some bad things on here about the company and wanted to see if current employees think:
Will a student such as myself can honestly expect once I graduate to begin working with the trainer for the 6 weeks or however long they said ( i forgot now that I am writing this post) and once @ solo begin getting miles on a consistent basis and will be able to drive good miles for the entire 12 month period of the contract???
Or are many of their graduates forced to wait or get very few miles???

Once you complete your CDL school, you will be assigned to a O-1 trainer for a minimum of 5 weeks. You are required to complete a list of requirements such as mountains with and without a jake, run all 5 regions of the country and more.
I have never had a student NOT complete his minimum requirements in the 5 weeks, but it sometimes happens.
Then a week back in the yard, and out with either an O-2 trainer or with another student for three weeks.
Back to the yard, then you are assigned your grad fleet truck and sent out solo.
Your routing in the beginning will generally have more time than needed to complete the run. This is to allow you to make mistakes without a service failure.
As you demonstrate your ability to pickup/deliver on time, as you show your willingness to follow procedures, your miles will increase.
In the beginning, you can expect around 2100 miles per week. As you prove yourself, those will increase.
Stevens does not try and push people out unless they fail to do their jobs.
There are many drivers that have been there for years (myself included) that started the same way as everyone else.
It all depends on you.

Did you begin like I will.. meaning did you do the company training in Dallas for the 3 week course? -

Hey I have a question....since I have had almost five years experience and 500,000 accident free miles with CRE as a driver and trainer and been off the road for a little over a yr, after training will they make me still stay out the 5weeks with a trainer? And after done with that will I have to go another 3 as a team? I was told by a recruiter that since I have experience already chances are they would only keep me out maybe 3 weeks or little longer then bring me back and get me into my own truck. The recruiter also asked if I would consider being a trainer myself once i am out solo, was told can make extra miles and money and they were in short supply there. Is this true?

You MAY have to, but it also MAY be shortened. There is no guarantee either way unless you get it in writing.

Hey thanks...it was helpful. I figured what they tell you over the phone and what actually happens are two different things. I have been there with CRE. And yes sir I will get it in writing.
