I've been researching, reading posts, corresponding with schools & recruiters all that stuff. I took your whole journey with you (so it seemed). I can't use the option you took but, your story has given me, and I'm sure others, great insight as to what to expect. Talking about your doubts & fears helps me to come to terms with starting something new. A very inspirational man. Best of luck to you & I hope I see you on the road some day.
Have to start somewhere

Well back from another week lets see I took gypsum board from Arkansas to Tennessee then I took wait more gypsum board from Cumberland Tennessee to Washetau Wisconsin yeah that is a mouthful It is starting to get cold up there so coming back south to warm Sunny Arkansas felt good.
Right now on my trailer in the yard is a load of Grey bar headed to Anniston Alabama for an 11 am delivery Monday.I still get lost allot but I am getting better at finding places to turn around.Actually it is not that I am lost it is just that I am not sure of where I am going. My Magellan road-mate has been a lifesaver you cant follow it completely but it saves me a lot of time getting from city to city.
Things that I discovered this week there is a handy little pocket guide to all the truck stops it tells how big they are and what type of services they offer and it is worth every penny of the 4.95 cents it cost me.
I drove though rush hour in Chicago ,Nashville ,St. Louis and too me the worst rush hour I drove through was in Springdale Arkansas and I tell you why. In those big city they are use to traffic jams and for the most part I always found some good soul who would let me move over when I needed to. But in these little towns they get freaked out when traffic stops and start to do stupid things because they aren't use to it just my two cents.
I absolutely hate driving a 63 mile an hour governed truck you cant hardly pass yourself. Your a menace in the hammer-lane.I wont go there cause I don't want to slow down the guys who can go faster.
I had a moron in a roadway truck would slowdown when I was behind him to 55 and speed up when I tried to pass him.Since I had no desire to play chicken with this mental case I just pulled in a rest area to put some distance between me and him no sense in dealing with crazy people.I thought about jumping on the CB and giving him a piece of my mind but there is already enough tough guys behind the mike and talking to one more would do me no good.
While I am on the CB let me just say this I keep mine on constantly because sometimes beyond all the pointless BS that goes on there is some real good information like what scales are open and where the cops are and in 55 mph Ohio and Illinois it is useful info and some of these guys are just real funny especially at night.
I think my dispatcher sandbagged me with a run to Wisconsin that I would of needed a time space continuum machine to make.I left Cumberland Tennessee at 7 pm after they loaded me with 2 hours left that I could drive that day and I had a 2 30 pm appt time in Wisconsin it was about 615 miles so as I am rolling down the road he qualcoms me "will you make your appointment" now every time they send you a message you have to find a place to stop to read it cause the qualcomm doesn't work while you are rolling nor would you want it too. I say no. He says why not? I tell him the time space thing he fails to see my humor he says he will reschedule for next day I think why didn't you do that to start with. See to me that is the great lie everybody knows you cant legally do some of these loads in the time given but they take them anyway and then turn a blind eye to it oh well just my two cents again.
So in summary I am still having a blast at driving the big truck will tell you more later. I have a great story about a conversation I had with another driver in Illinois but It is late and I need to get some sleep you all be safe out there later -
I have been a follower of your posts,I was just wondering, are you getting decent miles so far?I am going to fax Maverick all of my tax info etc today,so I can get the ball rolling.I live near Cookeville,Tn.and saw 3 Maverick trucks yesterday at a truck stop off I-40.I look for them everywhere I go.
They seem to keep the road hot towards Nashville.

Let me say this cause it is hard for me to keep track of my miles since I am so new. I haven't had the time to figure it out yet.I have never spent a free hour just sitting anywhere. Every-time I am empty I get my next job on the qualcom it is almost to the point where I wish I had time to catch up.Money wise I am averaging 800 bucks in my pocket a week. When I have a moment I will try to figure it out.Right now all I do is secure tarp and drive.Tarping is a dirty sweaty job for me right now I hope it gets easier someday.I am not breaking my 11 or 14 hour rule however I am working every second of my 14 hours hope that answers your question.Maverick is a good place to work but they will work you and you will drive by all those drivers parked in the truck-stops and rest areas and sometimes you will wish you where one of those guys. That said I wouldn't trade this job for any other I have ever had. Manual shifting is nice, more control and all that, however the automatic drives pretty easy and there is still a lot to do with the truck, Mav takes good care of thier trucks, sometimes to the point of pain for you, have to wait for shop time. Trianing wise though they have a good program, you will be in decent physical shape 'cause it's hard work. Good luck. drive55cat

Wow Daytona! Youre posts were awesome. They answered tons of questions that I had. I'm for sure going with maverick. Your posts also eased some of my worries about changing jobs(I have issues with change, especially when switching jobs) but now I know I could do it no problem. Thank you. Hope to talk to ya one of these weekends. Be safe.
