Most times trailer fires are caused by defective wheel seals. The seal leaks out all of the lubricant and thus without lube, friction causes intense heat and may eventually cause a fire. Usually you can see evidence of a leaking wheel seal but not always.

As for the Schneider apologist; Some people are easy to brainwash and they just call it company loyalty.

We are in school at Daly's in North Georgia. It is rated and one of the top 2 best commercial driving schools in Georgia and we like it a lot. In addition to the technical and driving classes, recruiters come each day from various trucking companies.

Man did I have to do some serious lip-zipping when the Swift guy came...

Good thing you zipped it. I would have, too. I wouldn't have wanted my lips to bleed from so much yappin' I would have done.

"Why do your students have so many wrecks? Why do you have so much turnover? Why do you allow your drivers to train when they get six months' experience? Why do you have your hands in so many training schools? Why do your ex-drivers hate you so much? Why does Swift show up on Ripoff Report dot com so much? Why this? Why that? Blah-blah-blah (blow a throat gasket here)."

Usually you'll find oil slung all over the inside of the tires, but to be fair it is part of the pretrip to check the oil level in the hubs. You simply remove the cap and look inside. With no oil the wheel bearings fail and disintegrate, causing the wheel assembly to come off, often with nasty consequences.

I think that's what happened to him.

First off your numbers aren't adding up. Assuming you waited the reccomended amount of time stated in your two calls you'd have waited 6.5 hours. Also you say that you "talked to maintainance at 2:30". Once again, assuming your numbers are correct, you first tried to contact them at 12:00.

Why, especially as a new driver, having experienced a fire, and sitting in an unsafe position, would you not been on the phone to your STL/DBL/Whatever they're called this hour, long before getting through to road repair? As for the road repair guy not getting a call until almost 5pm, yeah, maybe. But just because he said it don't make it so.

I've run for the pumpkin for 3 years now and I've had my share of road emergencies. Working Wal*Mart dedicated I had 3 reefer units quit on me, and two blow outs on trailers. One of which ate a mud flap and hanger. I never had the long wait times you're claiming, but once maintainance got on the phone they never hung up until they were able to tell me who was coming and when to expect them. In fact, the time the blow out ate the mud flap and hangar I lost the call on my cell before they told me who was coming and when. Before I could redial the number (after about 30 seconds of cussing sprint) they were calling me.

I'm not calling you a liar, and I'm not a "pumpkin apologist" (although you're free to call me one if you want), but there is a certain degree of personal responsibility here. Once you got the first call back message you should have been on the qcomm with the appropriate macro to maintainance. 30 minutes later with no response you should have been on the phone with your STL/DBL talking about "Look man, I'm out here, this is what happened, and I can't get the truck completely off the road. Do something!" Following that (assuming you got no satisfaction on the phone) sending the same info in on a free form so there was an official record. Those always get results.

Good luck in whatever else you do. If you stay in trucking try to be a little more proactive when the stuff hits the fan like that.

Im going through their training right now...should be fun answering your stuff.

Most recruiters only have information that is infront of them. They arent in charge of that info. Mine herself did not have the correct information and flat out told me 'I dont know" a few times about various questions. Suffice to say, talking to my future DBL answered many questions.

And who did you tell about this? The company does listen to your complaints and our OC right now was doing some hotel shopping as their current contracts are getting close to running out. Also...some of the trainers stay there too, so if it was that bad, someone should have mentioned something.
Well, I bet the limos were taken. They have two sets of classes at a time, week 1 and week 2. How do you move that many students at one time?

Right, this is called 'work.' Not sure where the 8 or 9pm thing comes in. Out here, we get on the bus at 5ish am, and get home around 5 that night and homework that is assigned (not everyday) CAN take a while. The stuff isn't easy. Its not supposed to be. They are cramming lots of stuff that many other courses cover in 3-4 weeks all into 2 weeks. Its their way of testing you. If you can't handle a classroom, how are you going to manage driving a truck and ALL of the stuff that goes with it?

No offense, but maybe weak women if anything.

This is for all those who don't know...
Schneider national uses a pre-work physical on the first day of class. Its a program they use which is run by a national ergonomics company that has researched the various movements that are typical of a regular driver. Lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, crouching. PLUS, they run your pulse. They did not check the BP. They check your pulse and if your pulse is too high, that is a sign of a heart attack probability. If that happens, you get the boot. They check your pulse immediately after each test. They have you doing various tests:
*lifting 30 lbs to your head
    *crouching under a mock trailer
*lifting 60lbs from floor in a crate to your chest
*the same to your head (i believe)
    *pulling 100lbs
    *pushing 80lbs
    *climbing ontop of a trailer
*one arm behind back and crouching with knees spread to touch the floor without bending back
*carrying 30 (then 60 I think) lbs across the room and back

Of course there isn't a rest period. YOu cant lift 60lbs in the real world and then wait 45 minutes at the dock to catch your breath before you lift another 60lbs of the 34k lb load.

As far as breathing, Im not sure what the requirements are on that, but if you can't do a simple exercise with lifting 60lbs or whatever without huffing and puffing like a 40year chain smoker...thats not a good sign. 60lbs isn't too terribly heavy.

I dunno, but if a small asian lady in our class that weighs as much as my leg can pass it.....

The DOT physical isn't hard at all. They check your eyes, ears, joints, you do a couple of things, turn head and cough...etc. You can be in perfect shape for any age, that doesn't mean you are physically in shape to do a particular job that is physically demanding.

I am really sorry 4 what happened 2 you folks that certainly would raise my blood pressure too!! and Im only 30 LOL. anyway I wanted 2 add in my 2 cents with Schnieder. I noticed their add in my local newspaper and decided that I would give them a call 2 see what they were talking about so I did and got a hold of this recruiter I forget here name but anyway she told me that they did take student drivers (I was a student driver at the time} and explained to me about all the benefits and blah blah blah. She tells me to fill out an app on line so I did. I called her the next day 2 see if she received my application. She informed me that she did not receive it. I sent it back (via email both times) and called back 2 see if she received my app. Again she tells me no. I said ok lets do this I will print my app. and send it 2 u via fax. She says ok and gives me her fax # I called her again to see if she received the fax and FINALLY she received it. She then told me that she would look over it and notify me the next day 2 tell me if my app. was approved or not.She calls the next day and tells me that my app had been approved and that I would be set 4 orientation and she would email me my confirmation# & all the instructions I needed. So I check my email the next day nothing.I wait another day nothing I wait a week nothing. So now Im trying to figure out whats going on.I call the recruiter back.I get her voicemail.I leave a message 2 call me back.Another day goes by nothing.2 days nothing on the third day I call my recruiter once more and again I get her voicemail.OK now Im really getting mad.I call the recruiter hotline. I talk 2 a different recruiter. He asked me if I submitted an app I said yes.He then asked who my recruiter was.I tell him.I also told him I was trying 2 get a hold of her and am having difficulty reaching her.He asked for my SSN.I give it 2 him.after that he asked Where do u live? I tell him Nevada. He says "Oh well we don't hire out in that area.WTF!?! NOW IM REALLY HOT!! HOT AS FISH GREASE!!!! I said 2 him then why the hell did the recruiter tell me 2 fill out an app and send it in knowing full well that I lived in Nevada?? He said "I don't have an answer 4 ya." I told him well that was the response I expected. My original recruiter never did return any of my phone calls. Its probably good that she did'nt because Im not kiddin I was on fire when the latter recruiter told me that they don't hire in my area.:biggrin_25516:

Vegas, I just checked Schneider's website. They hire those in Nevada for dedicated accounts. Sounds like someone told you a fib.

I find it rather odd they'd do this. But, then again, maybe not.

First you had this trouble with Schneider. They wanted no part of you after they dug a little.

Then May didn't want any part of you.

What kind of a skeleton do you have in your closet? Driving record problem? Medical condition these companies want no part of? What gives? Not that it's any of my business, understand. If you do have a skull and bones hidden away, you should tell these outfits up front.

I hope you have better luck at Crete, man.

I don't know why none of these companies want no part of me. I am a 30 year old man in good shape I don't take any medication I don't have any health problems like High Blood Pressure of Diabetes nothing like that. I really wish I had some skeletons in my closet to the fact that all this really happened 2 me!! I mean honest 2 god my driving record is good I never had any accidents or tickets in the past 12 years. I am in good health my family is in good health so I don't know what is happening.I did call Crete just a while ago and they told me 2 fill out an app on line which I did. Hopefully it will be good news that I will be excepted and I want have a road tester who is a piece of work.I really felt that the recuiter I spoke with was pretty genuine so I'll wait and see what happens:biggrin_2554: As for Shneider I don't know what happened there why they told me they did'nt hire in Nevada. That's ok though no harm no foul. I just wait 4 crete and perhaps I can work 4 them. Thanks 4 all of your replies tip and everyone else. And please I don't mean that in a smart allic or sarcastic way either
