My Experience as a Line Haul Driver

    AT,

    Is your boat fresh water cooled??? If so, you might want to start there. Also, you might want to check your seals on the outdrive as the rubber could be dry rotted.

    I wonder how many OTR drivers get to enjoy that special time on the water? I'm guessing not too many. I hope you had a great time! welcome aboard to the group of people who get to work for a good company and have the time to enjoy the fruits of their labor!

    I know the feeling. I worked nights as a waiter and bartender for 4 years before starting at FDX ground, then after that Nd going to CWF it was either days or nights which was a killer. At YRC I only work days and get all weekends off. I never went OTR though, had no desire to do so, your about my age as well and I know the feeling of wanting to be around to hang with friends, the Gf and family. Hope they are treating you well there

    Lake wylie, and the lake was COLD, like 55*




    Nothing wrong with the bildge pump, i just dont have a float switch so i have to manualy turn it on




    I used to take my boat out while on home time while OTR (i even made a video for my YouTube Channel)




    Yes its fresh water cooled, i just had all the Bellows (rubber boots) replaced last september when i winterized the boat, so if its leaking from there its because a clamp was loose and the boot popped off. It could be the seal possibly but not likely it wasnt leaking for the first 4 hours on the lake, and when i was leaking it was only leaking with the boat running and it was spraying like a fire hose not so much of a seeping in threw a crack type of a leak, but i'll find out on saturday when i start pulling stuff apart

    Got to work to find that all the trucks where back, so i grabbed the only one i know that the AC works, and since it just came out of the shop after 5 days i figured it would be decent....nope

    I get my normal run to South Hill, VA, fuel, hook, and head north at 7pm. Relay shows up at 12:30am, i get about 45 min down the road around the 183MM in the construction zone, I-85 is down to ONE lane, i had a gaurd rail to my left and a asphalt crew to my right, and a line of cars behind me and the stupid POS just shuts off at 50mph in a narrow lane with NOWHERE to move over.


    I was able to get it restarted within 2 min, and drove in between the cones into the construction zone before it cut off again. The second it shut off i knew what was wrong, so i called Road Serivce no answer after 5 min i said screw it put my phone on speaker and got out to fix it myself.

    Pop the hood, put my leather work gloves on and grabed a rag out of my bag so i could slowly open the Coolant tank witout burning the crap out my self (or so i thought) doing like always 1/4 turn and pull to slowly let out the pressure, as soon as the seal broke, it blew ME right off the trucl, sent the cap flying, and soaked me from the knees to my head and everything inbetween, truck was covered in anti freeze, got it all in my eyes/nose/mouth....not happy.


    Spent 10 min looking for the cap, found it wedged between the red hot turbo and the POS mercades motor, stuck my hand in there asap to grab it, got it filled the beach up, put the stupid cap on and hammered down back to the terminal (took 30 min to do all this, all the while on the phone waiting for road service to pick up the phone)


    Made it back to the terminal the second i pulled the brakes the lights came on and the engine shut down again, road service refused to pay for the 1/2 labor on the truck, so i told him next time he'll be paying for a tow truck to tow me the last 143 miles home, since i dont work on anything for free.

    My trainer also broke down 3 miles further down the interstate then were i broke down.



    Worked the dock for 1 hour then went home at 530am.

    That's why you should let a mechanic handle that and not try to do it yourself. :p

    I am a mechanic, and if i hadnt fixed it myself it would have been 4am till road service got there, the other guy didnt get his road service till 4am and he was 3 miles further then me.

    Yup. A good mechanic knows to open the cap partially when it's hot to let it vent through the overflow tube before completely removing it.
