Did you take out the 3/8" bolts on the intake side? The head isn't generally that hard to get off.

These bolts travel through rocker posts and also fasten head to block. Then count you have removed all 26 - 3/4" and 12 - 3/8" bolts. -

If I remember right they had all aluminum pistons, maybe someone is making 2 piece steel tops for them now.

The in frame kit I ordered has all new pistons and sleeve liners. The kit hasn't shown up yet so I'm not sure if the new parts are aluminum or steel but if I had to guess aluminum.
Made a bit more progress today, to my surprise I popped the oil pan off and found what appeared to be a recent gasket set as well a brand newish oil pump and sump screen.
My question for today is this, on the front and the rear of the crank there is a 'wheel' with 12 threaded holes where the flywheel bolts to one side and the harmonic damper to the other. I'd like to remove the front cover as well as the bellhousing adapter, do these 'wheels' need to be removed before the front cover and bellhousing adapters can come off? I have the front cover to the point where it will wiggle but I'm afraid to put a ton of pressure on it and crack the cast aluminum. -

The clutch parts came in today! Still waiting on a few other parts to come in before I can proceed further. -
Anybody know what size the bolt heads are for the main bearing caps, 33mm? My 1-1/4" socket is too small and the 1-1/2" is much too large, never been good with metric stuff. Thanks!
